Hate mongering was campaign gimmick

In what will surely prove a boon to truthful bloggers everywhere, George Bush, Jr.’s recent interview with the Washington Post continues to amaze. Certainly, as Plummer points out below, the interview reconfirms that Bush is a moron. No two ways about that. But at the end of the interview he reveals that he has no intention of passing any same-sex marriage laws, despite campaigning heavily in favor of a constitutional ammendment banning the practice. Now,

The president said there is no reason to press for the amendment because so many senators are convinced that the Defense of Marriage Act — which says states that outlaw same-sex unions do not have to recognize such marriages conducted outside their borders — is sufficient. “Senators have made it clear that so long as DOMA is deemed constitutional, nothing will happen. I’d take their admonition seriously. . . . Until that changes, nothing will happen in the Senate.”

So, it’s okay to incite bigotry and hate just to insure that you get to become the “president of everybody”.

Ok, so now that he has decided not to push for the amendment, you ream him for it.And if he had continued the push, you’d have reamed him for it.Would you prefer he sayed the course on this one, or would you prefer that the so called “religious right” now has their precious voting issue shoved up their asses? Lets face it, the people who vote for a president based on Clinton’s DOMA becoming a part of our constitution didnt need any “stirring up”. But they did just get their asses handed to them. Be happy for once.

If you recall, just after the third debate, the wrath of hell was laid at the feet of Senator Kerry for mentioning Dick Cheney’s lesbian daughter. Lynne Cheney called him “a bad man”, and the entire right-wing community — including the media — lined up to take shots at John Kerry. The merits of Kerry’s statement aside, the hypocrisy of the right is staggering. Though they ripped Kerry for exploiting Cheney’s daughter, they were clearly in the business of exploiting EVERYONE’S gay daughter in order to rally the votes of the religious right. So yeah. At this point and in this context, Mr. Bush is damned either way. His use of gay marriage as a campaign issue, be it his party’s rhetoric or Turdblossom’s strategy of employing state ballot initiatives, was, quite simply, exploitative of gay Americans. His Washington Post comments underscored the exploitation. His policy reiteration via Dan Bartlett emphasized that Bush is as much of a flip-flopper and opportunist as any politician to come down the pike.Bottom line, we won’t be giving Bush an inch of ground on civil liberties for gay Americans. That is unless, as the leader of his party, he calls for an end to all anti-gay legislation and an elimination of anti-gay ideology from his party’s platform.
