Clarifications

1) I don’t care if or why Senator Clinton became emotional (“cried” or whatever you call it). I do care that the cable news pundits turned it into a sexist “girls are so weak” reason for Senator Clinton’s victory.

2) If a Democrat exploits the fear of terrorism to, as Senator Obama says, “scare up votes,” I’m going to call them on it with the same vigor as I call out Cheney and the Bush Republicans. If this means cannibalizing the party I usually support, then so be it. Just because it comes from a Democrat doesn’t make it right — or more American. And I’ll be twice as hard on Senator Obama if he ever pulls the same stunt. But I don’t think he will.

I like to think that voters aren’t so callow that they’d be swayed by a cracking voice and a little eye moisture, but voters tend to go for odd things at odd times, so it’s difficult to say. That expressed, I do feel the pundits’ general crowing about it was unseemly, as disagreeing with or even disliking someone is one thing, but castigating them for weakness or other perceived flaws is another.

Bob, thanks! Finally! A voice of sanity (okay at least semi-sanity). Big girls don’t cry, because you can’t float to the top on tears. And this is fairly high. Keep up the words, Gloria
