Huckabee And “God’s Army”

For what it’s worth, I’d like to call your attention to a response I wrote to a reader/commenter about Huckabee’s “God’s Army” remarks. Check the comments here.

I’m with you. I’m scared shitless of people that are more willing to ‘fight for God’ than for their country. I don’t think people realize that statements like that are the mark of a simpleton. Anyone that wont consider reality because his spirituality tells him everything he needs to know should almost certainly not be running the country. Or the State. Or the County. Or the City. Or anything at all outside of church. When are these people going to stand aside and let the rest of us get on with the Age of Enlightenment?

As for me, I’m waiting for the time when certain segments of the public (like the above commenter) stop using language like “these people” when referring to fellow citizens, and describing faith as the province of simpletons. Being enlightened means being able to examine all sides of an issue fairly, not adhering to a new kind of doctrine that excludes all others; that’s just as exclusionary and narrow-minded as anything can be, faith-based or no.As it happens, Bob, I have a longer examination of the issues I take with your Huckabee-bashing that’ll appear on my blog within the hour. When it pops up, I’ll be sure to make a link. And I’ll be sure to check in and see what you have to say in the comments thread of your other post.
