Maybe the President can stop by and help clear some brush. And get the shit beat out of him.

They’re waiting for Comic Relief to “cover” it.

are they trying to make Iraq look like the US, or US look like Iraq?

Dear god! The “American Dream” of getting rich, owning your own home, getting a good education for your children so they can get rich and own their own homes… The greedy have preverted it so that it’s become the “American Nightmare” for so many. It’s truly heartbreaking.Pointing it out on by MSM will evoke a “why do you hate America?” or “why don’t you focus on what’s right with America?” from those who still believe that if they’re making money in the stock market then the economy for everyone is good. Losing your home due to illness in the richest country in the world (are we still??) is disgusting and there are far too many of us that are just an appendectomy or heart attack away from joining those poor folks in the tents.

The creators of the subprime mess and those who encouraged it are the same ones who told us the economy was “booming” and “roaring” and insulted anyone who felt an ominous breeze or saw a dark cloud. To me, these banks, these derivative market jugglers, anyone who had a hand in this–including the geniuses in the Bush Administration–are simply chronic, self-destructive gamblers playing with other peoples’ money, other peoples’ lives. This is a shameful corner of our vaulted American Pride.

“Losing your home due to illness in the richest country in the world (are we still??)”I doubt; the dollar is about on a par with the Swiss Franc these days.

“…when will American news media cover this story?”

Maybe because “this” isn’t a story?

I don’t deny that we in the good ol’ USA are looking down the barrel of some hard times. But I have a few of comments:

    1. I am no fan of the President. I voted for him and am embarrassed to admit the fact (though I don’t know that the alternative was any better). But this is not altogether his fault. The Federal Government has been operating on a deficit for years – during both Republican and Democratic administration, and Americans have been spending beyond their means like a bunch of fat, greedy, shortsighted spoiled children. That is ultimately what has brought this about. It’s our fault more than is it his.

    2. Of all the families in this “tent city”, only one family’s plight was explained. They had lost their home because the primary bread-winner (the husband) had fallen ill. Unfortunate? Yes. Indicator of an “economic crisis”? Hardly. If there were people in this place who were really victims of the very real crisis that is happening, one would think they could have found a better case study.

    3. It’s hard for me to feel much pity for any of these people. My wife and I, along with our two children, live in a mobile home that we purchased last year for $7,000 cash. It’s not humongous nor gorgeous, but it’s adequate and clean. I am not embarrassed to have my friends over to visit and share a meal. We have two vehicles: a 1997 Dodge Grand Caravan and 1998 Honda Accord. Both are dependable, clean and decent vehicles. I owe no money neither on our home nor on our vehicles. I have a clean title on all of them. I live within my means. While I do realize that we are in for some hard times, that there is a deep financial crisis heading our way like a runaway freight train, I feel no pity for a fat, selfish, shortsighted nation of spoiled brats that has brought this crisis on itself and allowed its government to author it. I will soon be suffering for the sins of those around me who spent beyond their means and borrowed beyond their ability to pay while I have tried to live a prudent, thrifty life.

Yes, a person can fall ill and loose their home even in the richest country in the world. Life is about taking chances. NOTHING is guaranteed. NOTHING is to be taken for granted. There is no ultimate safety net. Sometimes one has to fall down, get back up and make ones life all over again. The great thing about this country is not that nothing bad ever happens. It’s that even when it does, we still have the opportunity to get on with life and fix it.!!! That is what makes America great!
