$118

On one hand, high prices mean less driving which is good for the environment. But $118 isn’t part of a plan to conserve, it’s part of a plan for the oil companies to suck down the last of their milkshake before the Bush administration gets driven out of Washington on a rail.

So… When are the hearings?

If the high prices went to things like mass transit instead of corporate fat cats, I would say that the less driving is a good point. The problem is if you live in the country like me, where you are miles away from any stores or anything. Families out here can’t afford to go to the store, or they are cutting costs in other places that aren’t good, just so they can afford to get to work. We have 0 public transportation though, so people are kind of stuck with the driving, unless they are like me – an avid bike rider. I don’t mind doing a 10 mile round trip bike ride to the store hehe. Of course for a family with little kids, that isn’t such a good idea.

Gasoline is at $3.58 a gallon here – I saw one place selling it for $3.67 yesterday. God knows what heating oil is selling for, and I need to buy some so we’ll still have hot water and dealers require a 100 gal. minimum. Diesel is at $4.49/gal so food prices are thru the roof. I can’t imagine how people who make minimum wage can both get to work and buy groceries! The oil companies are making $1 billion/week in profits (I’m not exaggerating) and they have the balls to tell Congress that rising gas/oil prices aren’t their fault. AND the gov’t is still purchasing oil for the strategic oil reserves! Aren’t situations like this the reason the reserves were set up in the first place?

Bob said:” it’s part of a plan for the oil companies to suck down the last of their milkshake before the Bush administration gets driven out of Washington on a rail.”That is the most succinct assesment of the current oil gouge clusterfuck that I’ve read so far. I NEVER expect that any such explainaion will Ever APPEAR in the bought and paid for mainstream media.

3.58/gal when I went to work – $3.64 at the same station when I came home. WTF?!
