Buried Alive

I just had an MRI for my back, and you know… that’s what it must feel like to be buried alive. In a word: torture. I’m a large man (6’4″, 230lbs) and so the experience was not unlike being shoved head-first into a toilet paper tube. Not the cardboard thing — but the smaller cylindrical roller that actually goes inside the cardboard tube and holds the toilet paper. And then the whole deal is dropped inside of a jackhammer.

UPDATE: Wow. I fractured my T11 vertebra. My first serious cycling injury.

I am pretty claustrophobic. It sounds horrendous. But it is good to use these experiences to remind ourselves of how barbaric torture is.

Shit, Bob. It took them all this time to figure that out? You did say that your back was hurting, especially when you slept; that explains it.So….do they do anything about it or does it have to heal on its own?

So sorry Bob, no wonder you were hurtin!

Hope you are feeling better soon, Bob!

Bob, I’m similar size and have had a few MRIs. It’s a tight fit and not a lot of fun. Even with those sound-reducing headphones it’s loud.I’ve read about your interest in cycling before and I’m also a big fan of cycling. How did you crash? David Z of Slipstream had a crash in the Giro that resulted in a T-11 or T-12 compression fracture. They expect him to be back racing in a few months.I didn’t realize that Philly was such a great bike community until looking at the recent pictures of the recent race on Cyclingnews.com.Hopefully, bicyling in 2009 will be more fun because of a Democrat in the White House. Now if we could just get rid of those blue dog DINO’s which some days seems like the entire Party.

I saw Zabriskie’s crash on TV (the aftermath at least) and I cringed. The way he was sitting there when the cameras caught up was exactly how I was. It was difficult to breath because the T’s are mostly connected to ribs. More sad news for Zabriskie — at the Reading Classic, I overheard Frischkorn saying that Zabriskie is shaving off the old-timey mustache. And the Philly area is amazing for cycling. I’m surprised more pros don’t train here.As for MRIs… The inventors were both geniuses and sadists.
