The ‘No Attacks Mythology’

On Morning Joe the big topic is terrorism and how we “haven’t been attacked since 9/11.” This is a bogus argument, and I wrote a whole chapter about it in my forthcoming book.

1) We weren’t attacked for eight years between the first WTC bombing and 9/11 — without invading and occupying Iraq; without torture; without suspending habeas; and all the rest of it. And we ended the Clinton years with a budget surplus.

2) We HAVE been attacked both on American soil and off. The anthrax attacks and DC Snipers are considered Islamic terror attacks (do the Americans who were killed in these attacks not count?). Elsewhere, there have been tens of thousands of attacks against Americans in Iraq and Afghanistan alone.

The Bush administration is as incompetent with the war on terror as it has been with everything else.

Ahh – the same Morning Joe that was telling Robert Wexler this morning how Obama is a major Liberal because the National Review says so.I think Joe is realizing the party he loves so much (yet tries to act like he doesn’t) is headed for major defeat this fall, and he don’t like it.

What do you consider the 1995 Oklahoma City bombing? (Not rhetorical, actually asking)

  • Bob_Cesca

I typically use the word “terrorism” to indicate “Islamic terrorism.”Oklahoma City might be considered “terrorism” under the strictest definition of the word, but it should more accurately be listed under the heading of a domestic American-on-American mass murder. Virginia Tech and Columbine are other examples of this, and few would argue that those were “terrorist attacks.”

Have to agree with ya, Bob. McVeigh was a white supremacist and an anti-government terrorist. He also would have been very happy if there had been several mosques and imams inside the Murrah building when he blew it up.

    Bob, don’t forgetthishttp://archives.cnn.com/2002/US/07/04/la.airport.shooting/and thishttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mohammed_TaheriazarApparently if a large number of people aren’t killed it’s not a terrorist attack.
