Conservative Love

Here’s some conventional wisdom to think about today… It’s okay — in fact, encouraged by the corporate media — that Senator McCain could be leaning towards a running mate who is more conservative than he is. Yet it’s unheard of that Senator Obama consider a running mate that’s more liberal. In other words, both VP selections need to be more conservative. Why is the Republican far-right base more acceptable than the Democratic progressive base?

(I still strongly believe that Senator Obama needs to pick a running mate who’s more liberal.)

It just struck me how much sense that makes!A more liberal running mate would give Obama the opportunity to look “less radical” than someone else on the national stage. He can play the calm reassuring “good cop” role, which the conservatives would respond to. Sad, but true. If he goes the other way it does look like the running mate is picked to “temper” the progressive message. Screw that…make the progressive message so bold that meeting it 1/2 way looks conservative by comparison…thus steering us back to saner waters.Having a bit of a loose canon liberal in the VP seat would also give pause to any would-be conspirators on the right.
