I remember with great excitement the presidential candidate who offered new fresh ideas on American politics, who when he was elected became George W. Bush. Here we go again….All that’s left is putting experience on the ticket by chosing Dick Cheyney for Vice President.

I am not that worried. As you mentioned, it’s impossible to find a candidate with whom you can agree 100% of the time.

I agree with you, man, but I can almost see the nervous smile and the wincing of the knitted eyebrows (why aren’t they ever croched?) But timing is important, of course (did all these “moves” have to come at once–did the Faith Based Initiative comment have to be done in the middle of FISA and did he have to all but endorse the Court? Sheesh, a little sensitivity to context, Mr. Plouffe.

My thinking has been the same, Bob. What did anyone expect? That Obi would walk into the Oval Office on January 21st and promptly throw out the faith based folks??? Into the streets? That’d gone over like a turd in the punchbowl. He said he’d do this and pull EVRERYONE on board. That means EVERYONE, whether I particularly like them or not. I don’t know what he’s doing with FISA, but I always KNEW I didn’t know him well, and would likely be “surprised”. I KNOW what “hil” would be doing by now with FISA and I know WHY. This is our candidate, we fought hard to see to that (Thank God or whoever you pray or pray not to) and we allllll in~! For better or for worse. He’s asking us to trust him, after 8 long years of suffering leader abuse from Stupie McFratboy. He KNOWS what he’s asking. He knows it’s a lot.But look at what we are asking, and needing, from him! Abused as we are, we are going to have to have a little faith here and continue on.Thanks again for another great write!siri@legitgov.org

I didn’t want to add to the unbearable cacophony at HuffPo but really felt compelled to somewhere say how much I loved your thoughtful essay— there’s far too much at stake this year for any one single issue to be a deal-breaker.Your awesome blog is incredibly refreshing, this mix of pragmatism and passion that resonates with me. Thank you and keep up the good work!

Equal time must be given to Glenn Greenwald regarding Obamas’ statement RE his FISA position:
