A Heartbeat Away From The Presidency

One of Ambinder’s readers:

I thought you might like to know that under the heading of “Sarah Palin on Foreign Policy” at the On The Issue site for her, this is what’s listed:

“No issue stance yet recorded by OnTheIssues.org.”

As you talk about this choice with non-savvy friends or family members — Senator Obama has run one of the most successful campaigns in the history of American politics, and he defeated the most popular Democratic brand in the world. Raises $50 million per month. Organized the most energetic, historic convention… ever. And he chose a near-perfect running mate in Senator Biden. That’s his “executive” experience.

What does Governor Palin have that qualifies her to be a breath away from the presidency when two wars are being waged and the economy is disintegrating?

McCain might as well have picked Cindy McCain.

UPDATE: This is telling. Michelle Malkin’s reaction:

Yes, I’m impressed. Very impressed.

Well then, case closed. Meanwhile, I’m watching the Dayton feed from MSNBC and, appropriately enough, there’s a group of cheerleaders on stage. Also, the backdrop reads: “Country First.” Country first? Is that why McCain chose a running mate who, only 18 months ago was the mayor of a town of 8,000 people? Try “Pandering First.” Try “Desperation First.”

UPDATE THE SECOND: Another name joke for you. “Quaylin.”

I haven’t laughed this hard about a Republican in a very long time. I can’t remember if I ever have, but this pick is the polar opposite in so many ways that my mind spins from all the WTFs.Republican friend of mine rolled his eyeballs and said JM is NOT going to make any friends with this pick. And that seems to be his strategy: giving the RNC the middle finger salute.Had it been Romney we would have a general election that would write itself. But now in every major media office they’re leaning on the writers to get creative and put the best possible light on this pick. It will do us all wonders to see the underbelly of mainstream media once again.A better pick would have been Judas, Satan or the anti-christ just for the pure pleasure of seeing how they spin it. I used to be creative, but I never was deceptive so I can’t make this shit up. I would love to, in order to be a writer for Stewart or Colbert but all I can do is just laugh at this and enjoy what the writers on both sides come up with.Time to get the fact checker fired up and ready to go!

Political bias aside, if they trot out her Down Syndrome child for political gain, I’ll get physically ill.

I really think this is McCains biggest mistake yet. Maybe even worse than forgetting how many homes he owns.Palin has been photoed naked. Is under investigation.Has no experience.Husband works for BP. (more big oil)

I had a thought about this…You know how we’ve been saying that the media has been overblowing the PUMA vote, especially at the convention? If this was to pull away disaffected Hillary supporters, it seems to me that McCain has been listening more to the media narrative than what has actually been happening on the ground.

“Palin has been photoed naked.”Ummm…really? Well, gee, that should further confirm the hypocrisy of the Christianist Right who will heartily support her no matter.

I’m seriously pissed about this. I don’t think it’s funny. I think it’s beyond stupid and dangerous. All the more reason to make sure that McCain never steps foot in the Whitehouse.

In fairness to Malkin, McCain could have tapped a pot bellied pig and she would have said it was a good choice.
