Crapstakes

I signed up for the VP announcement text message thing, but I’m prepared to be disappointed by Senator Obama’s “veepstakes” choice (or as Romney called it “VP sweepstakes” — I hate both versions).

In addition to being reminded yesterday that Senator Biden voted for the Iraq invasion, it’s also worth noting that he voted for the awful, awful Bankruptcy Bill. He’s from Delaware, after all. The Credit Card State.

    I do see why the progressive end of the Democratic Party would find reasons to dislike Biden. But I think the reason Obama needs Biden is more compelling. I can’t see what any of the other names who’ve been running through the rumor mill lately — Sebelius is gaining steam today — can do to encourage the great big swath of undecided Unaffiliateds come into the fold. Biden, I think, can offer this moreso than the others.Like it or not, a President Obama’s going to need help legislatively. Kaine, Bayh, and Sebelius, in my opinion, don’t help Obama with that like Biden does. Plus, there’s a fair number of people who claim they don’t really know who Obama is (hard to believe, really), so adding another “who are you?” to the ticket seems unwise.

    Agreed, Bob. But I think the war vote, as odious as it was, might be forgivable if we give a one-time amnesty to 911 pussies who were afraid to stand up to war-mongers. There were a lot of them. But his vote on the bankruptcy bill is unforgivable in any context: he was doing the bidding of his overseers in “the credit card state.” Meme note: “credit card state” is much better than…, well, forget it, I promised I wouldn’t bother you about that any more.

    I declared any Senator who supported the Bankruptcy Bill as permanently persona non grata. That included Biden and my own shitty Senator (at the time) Debbie Stabenow.Much as looking past that vote and the AUMF vote pains me, I think Biden is the right man for the job, right now.Even over Clark.I can’t believe I just wrote that.
