Senator McCain toured the Enrico Femi power plant in Michigan yesterday and embraced nuclear energy. He clearly never watched the final season of The West Wing

The similarities between the final season-and-a-half of The West Wing — a show which, during the Bush Administration*, I’ve pretended is a documentary about the real 43rd President, Josiah Bartlet and have been much happier for it indeed — and the current race are simply striking. Alan Alda cuts a much more impressive figure as the fake Doddering Old Guy that starts out a centrist and is pushed further and further Right by his preening campaign staff, and Jimmy Smits’s Matt Santos is a Latino with a hot blond wife, but still, the mirror-image is creepy. Frankly I’d vote for Jimmy Smits himself before I’d vote for McCain.* I said “Administration”! AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! “The act or process of administering, especially the management of a government or large institution.” AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!! Fuck me that’s funny.

If you’re interested in another look at nuclear power, a friend of mine wrote a pretty succinct breakdown of the ways it can be used safely that even Jed Bartlett might have a hard time arguing with.http://dansolomon.com/blog/2008/08/01/guest-post-atomic-power-was-given-by-the-mighty-hand-of-god/–d

I’ve been watching the 6th and 7th seasons of The West Wing and agree with Elvis – and you’re right. It’s borderline spooky. And while I’m not willing a nuclear accident on southern California – Johnny better keep his fingers crossed that there isn’t a nuclear ‘incident’ in the next few months. The good news is that Santo won. Fingers, legs, toes and eyes are all crossed for a similar outcome.
