McCain’s Katrina Reaction…

…is almost exactly three years late.

Heckuva job, McBush! Now go on — get moving. Turning a potential disaster into a political event, with your version of Brownie in tow.

I’m sorry, did McCain really say “At least no Arabian horses died!” Oh. My. Fucking. God. Seriously, there’s something deeply, permanently broken inside this man. This clip needs to roll 24×7 during Gustav’s travels.

Excellent blog by Bob Geiger tonight over at HuffPo:Biden’s legislation would have provided many things including money to purchaseinteroperable communications equipment to help first-responders dealing with the disaster, $10 million “to find, unite, and transport children impacted by Hurricane Katrina to their parents, legal guardian, or next of kin” and funding to assist victims of domestic violence in affected areas.compared with:As the Democratic minority tried throughout the fall of 2005 to get help for people in Louisiana and Mississippi, the Republicans wanted no part of it and despite his post-Katrina pledge to “do all that is necessary to fund essential relief and recovery efforts and help those in need,” John McCain was right there to shoot down every initiative that would have helpedhttp://www.huffingtonpost.com/bob-geiger/mccain-to-katrina-victims_b_122848.htmlAnd McHypocrite had the balls to include in his statement today that communications equipment for first responders wasn’t up to the level “we would seek”. We did seek it, Senator. YOU shot it down! If it’s not up to the level you’d like, or they need, the responsibility for that rests with YOU!

One grand gesture in an election year does not cover up 8 years of neglect. There, now that I’ve vented that (it’s been building in me all day). Let’s pray and hope for the safety of those evacuating and those left behind in the path of this storm … and that neither candidate makes an attempt to gain from this potential tragedy.I would be horrified if Senator Obama made some cynical attempt to have a rally in the disaster zone. We’ve all had our share of distaste for John McCain, but let’s hope his better self prevails here as well.
