One Huge Reason To Vote For Obama

MCCAIN: And some of those tactics — you mention the war in Iraq — are like that we use in the military. You go into neighborhoods, you clamp down, you provide a secure environment for the people that live there, and you make sure that the known criminals are kept under control. And you provide them with a stable environment and then they cooperate with law enforcement, etc, etc.

So Senator McCain is saying that he’d use a military “surge” to secure our cities. In other words: martial law and a military occupation of American cities where “brown people” live. I can envision only one scenario that would actually be worse: private contractors like Blackwater being involved.

The crazy thing is that he said this during his address to the Urban League.

Why isn’t this being hammered by the corporate media (it’s a rhetorical question)?Oh – wait… since the media “wants Obama to win,” they won’t say a damned thing about the crazy old man shit McCain says or does.

How exactly do you keep “known criminals under control?” Oh yeah, now I remember. “Guilty until proven innocent (and we make it impossible to prove your innocence)”One of the most startling results of the Bush presidency is it has given creepy police state boot-licking wannabees like him the compfort zone to show their true colors. Their manhoods grow tumescent at the prospect of rolling into neighbs and “clamping down.”

At least ONE “press person” (cartoonist Ben Sargent) gets it:http://d.yimg.com/us.yimg.com/p/uc/20080801/lbs080801.gif

He’d have to use Blackwater since the Posse Comitatus Act prevents use of the US military – and one hopes that the military would actually obey the law.

And who will protect us from the Blackwater goons? Most of our National Guard – the state’s army, made up our friends, family and neighbors and protection against Federal tyranny- is half a world away. Along with their (now busted) equipment, I might add.Sometimes it’s a little bit scary what these people have managed to accomplish in the past seven years.

And, of course, we all know that those doing the clamping down will ONLY target criminals and other evil-doers. No one else will have anything at all to fear. Apparently McCain’s version of the Blackwater security forces will be sufficiently psychic to just KNOW who is an appropriate target before moving in. And, while we’re at it, doesn’t it seem a bit, well, strange that McCain is treating the Urban League to this insane rant? He really has lost it.

What these fascist wannabes fail to realize is that no matter how much boot-licking and ass-kissing they do, no matter how much help they lend to the bullies in charge, they soon become victims of the regime they worked so hard to bring about.

ceu:Not necessarily. The Miltary Commission Act of 2007 gives the President the power to declare martial law for any reason and to detain American citizens ithout habeus corpus, for any reason. Originally this act had “enemy combatants” in it, but had it replaced with “citizens”.Why do you think Blackwater is scaling back in Iraq? I think it’s because their urban training is finished. Applying what they learned under harsh urban condition in Iraq will make urban America look like a cakewalk.Recently 1,000 small business owners in the Denver Metro area were trained on how to shoot to kill. Should martial law be declared they will be given the authority to shoot to kill anyone for any reason. I wish I was making this up, but it seems the GOP might have plans to disrupt the convention?

I disagree, Friction. I don’t believe that the MCA trumps Posse Comitatus. (I’m talking about the traditional military, not the National Guard) I agree that the admin. would have no hesitation in declaring people unlawful combatants and locking them away without access to lawyers & the courts, but I have to believe that there are some honorable men & women in the military who would obey the law banning use of the federal military in a domestic, policing role on other than federal property. As to Blackwater…it appears to have become the personal army of the GOP, which is just scary as all hell. HOWEVER, it’s just possible that a cut-off of their paychecks would diminish that loyalty. Sounds bizarre, but keep in mind that the telecoms stopped their illegal spying when the bills didn’t get paid. The law, fear of punishment, fear of paying fines, loyalty to the Constitution – those things didn’t cause a pause in their actions, but not paying the bills?? That brought it all to a (temporary) screeching halt.As to a declaration of martial law – I’ve long felt that an attack on domestic soil just before the elections in Nov would lead to such a declaration by the president and would include an attempt to postpone the elections. (yes, my tinfoil hat is very shiny this morning. Why do you ask??) But I HAVE to believe that the military commanders would obey the law – that there are people high up in the military who love their country and its laws & Constitution more than they love George Bush. I could be wrong, though.
