This is awesome:

NEW YORK – Barack Obama’s acceptance speech at the Democratic National Convention was seen by more than 38 million people.

Nielsen Media Research said more people watched Obama speak than watched the Olympics opening ceremony in Beijing, the final “American Idol” or the Academy Awards this year.

That might explain Governor Palin, too.

Like I said earlier, I would not be surprised if this was made after Obama’s speech. We’ll never know, but this is a “gimmick” pick designed to woo women, when actually it should insult women across the country.

I just pointed out elsewhere– there were lots of event/parties with hundreds of viewers last night.Wonder if this number is anywhere reflected.(News item says CSPAN & PBS not included either- I watched most of the coverage on CSPAN)

Interesting point I just heard on Ed Schultz:The Obama team shouldn’t touch this until the VP debates. With all the women watching, Biden should announce that Obama would nominate Hillary to the supreme court. It’s gamesmanship, sure, but it would be a striking blow.

Hey Bob, I’ve got somewhat of a problem. For some reason, I’ve been banned from commenting at Huffpost under the pseudonym dbeden. I don’t know why, other than that maybe I called a couple of righties idiots. I must have gotten flagged by BigLib or someone out there on the right. Do you know if there’s any way to appeal being banned?

I think the number was closer to 100 million after one includes the watch parties. Heck, even watch party at a bar on S. Broadway in Denver – where we met up with Kucinich – pulled in a few hundred patrons.

http://www.andrewhalcro.com/agia_signing_today_sinking_tomorrowthis was interesting….does anyone know any more about this pipeline? i think she mentioned it in the acceptance, but im not sure…

  • recruitgal

I wonder if these stats also include the millions that watched it over the internet? Not all of us have TVs… :o p

Jesus Hussein Christ, John McCain must be one of the scariest human beings that ever lived if Pat Buchanan — no slouch in the Department of Nutty Terrifyingness — can say this about him just now on MSNBC on the question of McCain’s “temperment”:

And there is a legitimate concern among some of us — including me — about whether John McCain is too bellicose, too unreflective, too automatically in-your-face, when the country seems to be challenged abroad by adversaries.”

Fuck us, we’re so doomed if we can’t get this vote out and put McCain back in his diapers. If Pat “I Own An Immigrant Cannon” Buchanan thinks McCain is too bellicose, too unreflective and too auto-face-getting, we’re beyond fucked. Start buying bomb shelters and lead pants.

Wow…I must admit, I got faked out by the MSM last night with all of the talk of Pawlwnty clearing his schedule for the next couple of days.Oh well…sad that I’m saying this but the low-info voters are going to love this Pale/Palin ticket ’cause she’s young, she’s purty, she’s in Vogue, and she’s got a newborn. So much for the issues and experience.McMethuselah/Toots ’08. Catch it!

Some jagoff on Msnbc just said “well she commands the national guard of alaska and russia is nearby and alaska hasn’t been invaded by russia… georgia can’t say that”….. what a fuckhead

I know this off topic…but I just wanted to say that I miss Bob’s live blogging and all the thoughtful and hilarious comments. It was fun watching the convention with all of you. I dont think I’ll have the stomach to watch the Repukes convention though…

  • http://www.clusterdouche.com Elvis Dingeldein

Yeah, I’ve been having The Withdrawals as well, CM. But think of all the fun we had liveblogging a convention we actually wanted to listen to and absorb; surely we can have 10 times the Thoughtful Hilarity with the horseshit that will come out of the Republican convention?

    >>Do you know if there’s any way to appeal being banned?I’m sorry to hear you were banned. But I’m not really involved with the moderation stuff, Constance. Though I sometimes approve comments as they come in, the site admins deal with the banning and I don’t even know how they decide or what the parameters are.

Hey Elvis…I used to think I was funny till I read your stuff….You rock…Im now a Clusterdouche fan too…God help me!

Constance, write to the HP community support team (community-support AT huffingtonpost DOT COM) and tell them you were banned and ask them to review your account and possibly unban you. They do make mistakes. They banned me a few months back, but told me I wasn’t banned even though I was getting a “you’re banned” message when I tried to post. Took me a few days of back & forth emailing before they got it straightened out. Remember that they’re real people and be really nice to them.
