Redemption

I swore I’d never praise Senator Schumer after he vocally supported Mukasey’s confirmation. I take it back.

“They’re trying to say, ‘He’s not one of us,’” Schumer said.

“I would answer back hard. What do you mean he’s not one of us? It’s John McCain who wears $500 shoes, has six houses and comes from one of the richest families in his state,” Schumer said. “It’s Barack Obama who climbed up the hard way, and that’s why he wants middle-class tax cuts and better schools for our kids.”

That’s the stuff.

    Chuck Schumer was as completely wrong on Mukasey as he is completely right about this one.

    Yeah, but Senator Schumer is forgetting to plug in the crucial Black Factor in his One Of Us equation. A crusty old white dude with a ton of money and a foxy robot wife (Now with 85% more-realistic Grinning Idolatry Apparatus!) is still white; no matter how hard-scrabble and Up The Hard Way Senator Obama’s path to power was, when those in power talk about “Being One of Us” don’t ever be fooled into thinking they don’t mean “Seriously, folks! He’s black!”McCain is old enough to remember the Good Old Days, when blacks humped his daddy’s golf clubs up the back nine and you could hose them down with firehoses when they got “uppity.” Never forget how terrified the Average Fat Old White Republican Male really is of a potential black president.

    I agree with this take on Schumer, too. Obama absolutely must go negative. It’s the only way he can counter the “he’s not one of us” themes. All he has to do is make ad after ad after ad replaying all the stupid, idiotic drool-laden remarks that McAin’t has made in the last 6 weeks. Just replay those ads and continue on as if they don’t even exist. Marginalize the fuck out of McAin’t.
