Smooth Move, Edwards

John Edwards admits to cheating on Elizabeth…who is dying of cancer.

Nice guy. Very Gingrich of him.

At least it’s early August and everyone is on vacation.

Real glad he ran for president knowing that bomb was waiting to go off. Way to not possibly hand the Republicans the election should you have gotten the nomination. Jackass. That said, by saying he’s not the father because of “the timeline,” is he admitting to nailing a pregnant chick?

“That said, by saying he’s not the father because of “the timeline,” is he admitting to nailing a pregnant chick?”He’s saying the affair ended before the nine months before the baby was born.Man, this really makes me ashamed to be from NC right now.But glad he didn’t get the nomination.I wonder if the affair was going on while he was Kerry’s running mate?

Very depressing and sad for Elizabeth.

  • Nanotyrannus

It is sad for Elizabeth. But honestly, could the Republicans have gone after that so easily seeing as how John McCain and Newt Gingrich were pioneers in the field of cheating on your sick spouse? There goes his chance at AG, too. Would have loved to see him in government going after the bad guys.

^^Answer – of course. McCain was a young cad, who’s learned better (or so the story would go) – Edwards was a grown man with a dying wife. No way this could have ever been good for democrats.Agreeing with Bob about the timing – I’m betting that this was either required of Edwards by the party or something – because with this timing, the story will be old news just in time for the convention.QT

This news was very disappointing. I was also hoping to see Edwards as AG. I think, in spite of his personal problems, he would have been an excellent choice.Ah, well; not the first time an otherwise intelligent person let his decisions be made by the wrong part of his anatomy.”Johnny, we barely knew ye.”

I am confused about the Timeline of this- so was he having an affair when he was running? before he was running? ( so that makes it okay? so he ran when Elizabeth was fighting cancer?) and he had an affair , but admits he did not love her ? ( so that makes it “better”….) and now we know that he did lie about it…I think he just blew his chance for AG…and all his work on poverty- will that be tainted….Poor Elizabeth…damn.

  • Nanotyrannus

From Salon.com”Edwards also confirmed the Enquirer’s story that it had caught him meeting with Hunter at the Beverly Hilton last month, and said that Elizabeth Edwards did not know about that meeting.”If the affair was over and it’s not his kid, what the hell was he doing sneaking off to see them both?I still don’t think the McCain campaign would have wanted to touch this. Remember, McCain is supposed to be a Goddamn Died-in-the-Wool Naval War Hero. They wouldn’t want to talk about his infidelities. He wasn’t a young cad – he was 43 and a Goddamn Died-in-the-Wool Naval War Hero that was about to be offered Rear Admiral (hahahahhahahaha. Rear.)I agree that the Republicans would want to make hay about this, and will go into haymaking hyperdrive next week. I’ll be surprised, however, if John McCain speaks himself about this subject.

Really disappointed to hear confirmation of this story – the affair. Don’t quite believe the “I’m not the father” part, but only a DNA test will give us that answer.Shit, I like John Edwards and like others here had hoped to see him as AG at the very least. He was my write-in candidate on the CA ballot (absentee) long before the votes were counted……obviously a waste of a vote then and now – sheesh…….I feel very badly for his wife, Elizabeth. As if the woman hasn’t suffered enough – a son getting killed, her own struggle with incurable cancer, and now this humiliation.

The good folks over at CNN (“We Do Politics The Way You’re Fat Drunk Uncle Dances At A Wedding”) must really have it in for John “My Haircut Could Feed Zimbabwe For Six Months” Edwards, given the photograph they chose to run of the chrome-polished peroxide-bathed man-eater he was banging. Compare this front-page pic — which makes her look like the girl every one of us has tea-bagged in the backseat of a ’67 Mustang at 3 in the morning in a mad dash to get any sort of Action before The Beer Goggles wear off — to this picture, which makes her look like the girl every one of us has tea-bagged in the backseat of a ’67 Mustang at 3 in the morning’s hotter best friend, the one that waits patiently in the Beemer for the other one to come staggering back and combs the vomit out of her hair the next morning.Come on, CNN! Give John Boy some credit and run the Hot Hunter Pix!!

Oh fuck me I spelled “your” wrong. Why can’t I notice these things before I click POST? I was a Classics Major in The Liberal Arts, I’ve read The Iliad in attic Greek, I really do know the difference between your and you’re. Theirs no doubt about it! I do to!

Good post on HuffPo by Cenk Uygur – how is this any different than John McSame’s affair and subsequent marriage to his mistress……..God forbid we should attack a “war hero” on his numerous infidelities *sarcasm*. After all, it’s all about the family values party, right?

Enigma – fall, 2006 is the timeline. He’s offered to take tests; someone else has already claimed that he, not Edwards, is the baby’s father.Link to Edwards’ statement:http://thepoliticalcarnival.blogspot.com/2008/08/john-edwards-statement.html

It will interesting to see what the Repubs do with this story. Im thinking they might not do much….maybe a little “people in glass houses shouldnt throw stones” thing going on. Time will tell.

  • MG

It doesn’t surprise me.He was a condenscending prick to me when I met him– and I supported him at the time. The guy is a total fraud. This can’t be empahasized enough: #1- she wasn’t even a real filmmaker, just some fool who was hired to follow him with a camera and #2 he was using his anti-poverty organization’s funds to pay her 100K salary.Go the hell away, John Edwards.I’ve written it many times: the ’08 Democratic candidates were among the weakest I’ve seen in a LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOONG time.

Well, ok, but I like Obama. :) Anyway – Elizabeth has made a statement on Daily Kos:http://www.dailykos.com/storyonly/2008/8/8/193337/7354/473/564989QT

Edwards speaking role at the convention has just been assigned: greeting delegates at the door and pointing out toilet locations.

Hate to play devil’s advocate, but has anyone considered that perhaps Edwards and his wife have/had an arrangement? It’s not as uncommon as you’d think, and because we live in a puritanical society, it’s not likely something they’d bring forth.Sayin’ is all.
