Too. Much. Barbecue.

I was going to take a break from ripping the media on the Huffington Post this week. But after reading about some of the barbecue pundit reactions to last night’s Saddleback Jesus chitchat, I’ve called off the break.

The upshot of the pundit reactions:

Senator McCain was forceful, concise and awesome (even though he dodged questions and delivered his stump speech more or less).

Senator Obama was “nuanced” — which means he’s weak, elitist and awful.

‘The hell? If we don’t seriously change the tide on how American politics is framed and discussed, we’re in for many years of war and fascism.

If Senator McCain wins in November, that’s precisely what we’ll get because the barbecue media, time and time again, demands Republican-style political posturing. Just like they did four years ago cheerleading President Bush to a second term — only to change their tune after Katrina, etc. Yeah — the media’s shock-horror over Republican incompetence was predictably temporary, and now we’re back to hearing that elections ought to be decided based on war- and fear-mongering — facile, disingenuous attacks and talking points. Vindictive, sloganeered bellicosity instead of thoughtful reason and rationality.

Even if Senator McCain loses, the continued push to the right by the corporate-controlled media — despite the right’s obvious and well-documented failures — will likely continue to move forward unhindered without the slightest regard to the urgent needs of the country.

MSM gets it wrong again — they say Obama was being “flip.”Or perhaps not. If you use a bit of imagination, you can posit alternative explanations to the latest meme du jour. When asked at what point he believes life begins Obama noted that determination was “above his pay grade.” So he was being flip according to the MSM.But by now they should realize (Thankfully!) they don’t think like Senator Obama. Is it possible he was tipping his hat to his avowed Creator and acknowledging it is not his place to judge when life begins? And wouldn’t that be a sign of respect and a very Christian (a la J.C.) attitude? It’s like Senator Obama’s aside during the New Hampshire debate that Hillary was “likable enough.” Most interpretations I’ve read assume he was making a jibe at Hillary. However, I read the comment as a sign of Obama’s irritation with the media moderators over raising the specious election criteria of “likeability.” Unlike 98 percent of the population, I believed Senator Obama really found Hillary likable. It was the media he found less than agreeable. Is it any wonder?I think “Bomb, bomb, bomb – Bomb, bomb Iran” is way more “flip” than Senator Obama’s decision to leave the moment of creation to the Creator.

Also, lets not forget, the Barbeque people want this race to be close for better ratings. If they were fair in thier reporting this thing would’nt have the numbers they want. Lets face it. They absolutly did that during the primaries. I think there doing it now.

I think the liberal media is forming an opinion based on the audience’s reaction to the answers. Most Americans are pro-choice and anti-war, unlike the crowd. Not sure these clowns get that.

The whole thing was sham. That Rick Warren guy lied about Senator McCain being in “a cone of silence” so he couldn’t hear any of the questions or Senator Obama’s answers. McCain didn’t even arrive at the church until 30-40 minutes after the forum started. That’s what Warren told Rick Sanchez on CNN not long ago.

Bob, there seems to be a combination of explanations as to how the media are doing an unbelievable public disservice. Obviously there are the malicious Steve Doocys and Hannitys, etc. The thing that scares me even more than those clowns are the ‘well meaning’ reporters. Journalists who are otherwise left leaning have completely bought into the Obama scare, not realizing how it is their job to shape the public discourse. This really struck me during the Wesley Clark ‘scandal’ when I saw journalists who otherwise were staunch on defending Obama join right in with the choir in completely misrepresenting what Clark said and obviously meant. Sure, they might have secret right wing agendas, but if they don’t, that actually leaves me more frightened. When the people who select how and why the general public receive their information are just dead wrong and totally damaging, especially in such an insanely important election, well then i fear we are all screwed.
