Bridge? No, no. She Supported A ‘Link’

About that bridge ta’ nooowhere:

PALIN: What I supported was the link between a community and its airport. And we have found that link now.

So in other words… a bridge. The Eskimos call it an “ikautit.”

UPDATE: Here’s the bridge “link” she’s talking about:

And she still supports spending $400 million to $600 million on “the other Bridge to Nowhere,” the Knik Arm Crossing, which would provide residents in Palin’s hometown of Wasilla faster access to Anchorage, Knowles added.

“That project is moving right ahead,” said Knowles, who served as governor of Alaska from 1994 to 2002. “The money for that project was not diverted anywhere else. … So (for her) to say she said, ‘Thanks, but no thanks….’ I would say she said, ‘Thanks!’”

So not only did she support the Gravina Island bridge, but she’s also presently supporting the waayyy more expensive — porkier — other bridge to nooowhere.

Fucking Fantastic Commentation Threadery, GO!Great, great, GREAT comment thread running over on TPM about McCain/Palin’s claims about Alaska producing “nearly 20 percent of the U.S. domestic supply of energy.” Yet another lie in need of The Debunkifaction.

I have actually flown in and out of Ketchikan a fair number of times (probably more times than Sarah Palin has), so I think I’m qualified to comment about the “link” between the airport (on Gravina Island) and Ketchikan (on Revillagigedo Island). The physical “link” is a ferry, which leaves the town side of the channel on the quarter hour and the airport side on the hour and half hour. It’s no big deal to make the trip, and the boat hauls both cars and passengers.I don’t think it makes a rat’s ass of difference to most of the town’s residents… just the few Chamber of Commerce types who figured on making a killing on airport island property values skyrocketing (money – the real “link”) and some people that would make some pretty decent wages working the construction.I’ve been told by sources that I trust that those real estate developers are friends of Senator Ted Stevens, Congressman Don Young, and former Senator (and former Governor) Frank Murkowski… but I can’t easily verify that part.Based on current news, I certainly wouldn’t be surprised.

By the way – the aboriginal people (referred to as “Natives” by most Alaskans) who are from that part of Alaska are Tlinget, not Inuit (Eskimo). However, the Inuit word for shit is “anuk,” which is what Sarah Palin is full of.
