Experience-shmerience. Just Trust Her.

Palin at a townhall yesterday:

But as for foreign policy, you know, I think that I am prepared and I know that on January 20th, if we are so blessed as to be sworn into office as your president and vice president, certainly we’ll be ready. I’ll be ready. I have that confidence. I have that readiness.

So why won’t she take serious questions? If she’s so confident and all…

The person asking her that question asked for specifics, and she of course gave none. It went something like this:Q: Governor Palin, you have been accused of having no foreign policy experience, what are some specific examples you can give us to rebut this criticism?SP: I’m ready. God Bless America. I’m happy to answer any questions (you can even play Stump the Candidate hahahaha!)….Q: Um, how about you answer my question then, you know, about naming any specific foreign policy experience?SP: I’m ready. Ask away!Q: I have…..twice now.SP: I have confidence!Q: Sigh….

    “oh…and I dont blink…ever”Next question?

A few words in her response weren’t accidental. It wasn’t by chance that she came right out and said “if we are so blessed,” as if their real campaign manager is The God and all it takes is some really hard praying to git ‘er done. Make no mistakes about it, folks: The clearly insane “women” that flock to Palin’s feet are in this for the Goddiness. They’re voting their souls, not their minds or their economic interests. The more she keeps this up, the more rational independents will start to slough away from their ticket like the skin of a well-roasted Hawaiian pig. With lipstick. If The God is running the McCain/Palin campaign now, He should really take a look at Rick Davis. No thinking The God would purposefully make a human being this ugly.

Elvis, you are so right…God BLESS America. If we are so BLESSED. It’s like Pavlovs dog. I have even heard they love her because she uses Mary Kay Cosmetics too! And is frugal! They make me ashamed of my gender.

SP: “Yes, folks, my readiness makes me ready and experienced. And I’m confident that I’ll use this readiness to be ready on day one as your VP. I’m very confident in my readiness b/c I’m not blinking which gives me even more confidence in my readiness…”Jesus, this is like one big never ending circle jerk.

Elvis, The God fucked up Davis’ eyes or something, and The God might just want to go ahead and give Ms. Sarah some pom poms. She’s just a mindless cheerleader at this point.

Note that the “I can see Russia!” qualification was conspicuously absent in her response. Guess we just need Tina Fey to keep calling out her talking points one-by-one, and pretty soon she’ll by down to “Hey! My husband’s a Dude, eh?”Say g’nite Sarah.

Once again Chuck Hagel seems to agree with most rational people: http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20080918/ap_on_el_pr/hagel_palin

Midad: Palin ain’t so frugal… she made sure she got per diem when she was sitting at home in Wasilla, and paid $40K +for her family to jaunt around.http://voices.washingtonpost.com/washingtonpostinvestigations/2008/09/palin_per_diem_travel_expenses.html

You know, it just struck me. McCain has been a Senator for over 30 years…and as we can see from his VP pick, he’s not a “big picture” thinking kind of guy. So, will the people of Arizona pick-up on this clear indication that their esteemed Senator is a doofus? How on earth has he been masquerading around Washington making in all likelyhood equally boneheaded decisions as was the Palin selection – for THIRTY YEARS!?!?!?!?!

I posted on this on my blog. I’m not a Sarah-hater, so don’t hate me! But I share a different, if sympathetic perspective: http://obamaproject.windonwater.net/?p=180QT

“The Real Scoop On Palin’s Staged Town Hall Meeting — Another Pretend Moment!http://www.washingtonmonthly.com/So, what was the catch? Unlike most town-hall events, which are open to the public, include diverse crowds, and no one needs an advance invitation, this event was for ticket-holders only. And the only way to get a ticket was through the local Republican Party, after an advance RSVP. No wonder Palin was prepared to play “stump the candidate” — it was a very friendly crowd that had no interest in testing her.It doesn’t exactly sound like a vote of confidence in the candidates’ ability to answer tough questions, does it?”How long will the GOP continue to get away with lying, cheating and deceiving the American people?

“How long will the GOP continue to get away with lying, cheating and deceiving the American people?”As long as the corporate media allows them to…

@QT: I will agree so far as the idea that you have a right to your opinion, but I can’t understand why you would think Palin has any empathy or sympathy for women in difficult situations. After all, she cut money to help single teen-age moms get affordable housing in Alaska. (Of course, her daughter doesn’t have to worry about silly things like that – mommy and daddy will be there to help out).

Chris Kelly (HuffPo) pointed out something I hadn’t seen elsewhere:You might think “I’ll end greed” would be the most mortifying thing John McCain could say at one sitting. You’d be wrong. At Wednesday’s town hall — his first with Sarah Palin — he topped himself with this explanation of her credentials:”She has been commander in chief of the Alaska National Guard. Fact. On September 11 a contingent of the Guard deployed to Iraq and her son happened to be one of them so I think she understands national security challenges.”Which is fine except:The governor of Alaska doesn’t command the National Guard in combat overseas.Sarah Palin didn’t deploy anyone anywhere on September 11th. She was a guest speaker at an Army deployment ceremony.Track Palin isn’t in the National Guard; he’s in the Army….imagine what would happen if Barack Obama got the Army and the National Guard mixed up.http://www.huffingtonpost.com/chris-kelly/the-delicate-subject-of-j_b_127359.html

From LiveFree – “So, will the people of Arizona pick-up on this clear indication that their esteemed Senator is a doofus?”We’ve known for quite some time. Of course, I’m kind of a visitor, as I’ve only lived here a couple of times at 2-3 year stretches (then I get the hell out and regain my sanity).Agree with the observation cminri – the media controls the message, and who controls the media…

@bajasteve: worse – the taxpayers are paying for their housing…. ;) Well – I hadn’t heard about the cutting of funding for the housing effort, but she’s republican, and that doesn’t sound much like a republican spending item. There are indeed legitimate philosophical differences between democrats and republicans about HOW to do things – so I make allowances for that. (Moreover – why was the funding cancelled? Obama has promised to cancel lots of government programs that haven’t proven effective – I’m sure many of them will sound like things we shouldn’t cut, and will have people whose livelihoods depend on those programs arguing against the cuts.) I also note that she increased funding for disabled children’s education and care. Maybe she’s thinking about her own kid when she does that -but that’s part of my point. I am anti-abortion, but I honestly don’t want men as the primary decision makers on this particular policy. I want someone making policy here who actually may have to (or may have) lived with the consequences of the policy. That was the initial attraction of Sarah Palin – that she had a self-imposed policy against abortion and lived up to it. I wrote about that on my blog as well. Now she seems quite a bit more like a half-baked cake – pulled out of the oven too early – and if she doesn’t get back in the oven quickly, she’ll be ruined for all that she could have been.QT

I live in Alaska and I remember very well the debates and interviews that Palin participated in when she ran for governor. As a politician, she has mastered the art of the non-answer.Watch her during the next 6 weeks; you’ll see a lot more of this – I promise.Shame on any journalists that let her get away with it.

  • PackyJ

@Tsuitoo – I couldn’t agree more. She babbles buzzwords and talking points, and seems to get away with it.By the way – where do you live? I’m in Kenai.

  • NotAPollStat

I can’t even believe they’re (CNN and MSNBC) playing this over and over as a Sarah Palin “speaks” example. It’s ridiculous. Can you imagine how much worse her other answers were if this was the best they had to show?

  • http://livefreeordie08.wordpress.com LiveFreeOrDie08

Do you realize the world has come to a point where the media is claiming “Breaking News” because a politician is speaking?A politician. Speaking. Shocking. It’s like they’ve got tally sheets for each candidate – and they’ll take any schlock and slop it up as news just to keep things “balanced”.

  • hugh.c.mcbride

to me the most galling part of ms. palin’s “answer” was her comment about future efforts to play “stump the candidate” … in other words, any questions related to ability, experience, insights, or intentions aren’t legitimate inquiries, merely “gotcha!” attempts by those who are attempting to undermine her candidacy …isn’t this akin to answering the question “do you know what time it is?” by yelling “yes, I *know* how to tell time — and I’ll be able to answer your question *next* time you try to catch me off-guard, too!”? …for the past few days, i’ve been wondering if it’s the arrogance or the incompetence that frustrates me the most — now it looks like i’ve gotta add paranoia into the mix, too …
