Hurricane Reminder

FACT: Responding proactively to a hurricane is the base minumum expectation for a president and the government.

But be prepared for the Republicans to praise President Bush and Senator McCain for their “extraordinary” and “heroic” response. It stands to reason that since they failed so miserably three years ago, the bar has been set very, very low. And so an average reaction will appear triumphant.

Last night, Bob Geiger posted an excellent blog about the politics after Katrina.http://www.huffingtonpost.com/bob-geiger/mccain-to-katrina-victims_b_122848.htmlI posted about it lower down (under “McAin’s Katrina Reaction”), so I won’t repeat that here, but suffice it to say, that McCain voted against emergency funding for victims, against providing funds to reunite parents with missing children, against upgrading the communications equipment for first responders, against revising the tax code to provide benefits for the areas hit hard by the hurricane, and against investigating what went wrong. That’s the kind of support McCain offers hurricane victims.

Excellent, ceu.Hey, wasn’t there just a hurricane/tropical storm the made love to Florida for something like 5 days just a week or so ago? Did Goofy Gampy and his merry bunch of Incompeto-Bots pile into the winnebego and motor down for a week of photo-ops?

Fay, Nano. And, no, I don’t remember any statements by him on that. 5 days of rain with little press coverage just ain’t as sexy as “an impending natural disaster and tragedy” as he referred to Gustav in his statement yesterday.

Very true. Also, why are they so worried about a storm bearing down on New Orleans? Because they know THEY HAVE NOT ADEQUATELY REPAIRED THE LEVEES. The city cannot withstand another major storm and they know that this is no one’s fault but their own. They’re scared shitless that another storm will illustrate exactly that point. Can’t these frakkin’ storm wait another year so it can all be blamed on President Obama? At least they have Jindal to help spin things if the worst happens. Watch. You’ll hear about how wonderfully the relief effort and coordination is going.

Did you see Obama’s comments on it? Very passive aggressive, very smart. Something about not wanting to go down there and draw from the desperately needed resources, i.e. Police, etc.

On the plus side (for residents) the damage doesn’t seem to be as great as was predicted. It’s not good, but we’re not seeing a Katina repeat. On the negative side (for McPOW & the GOP), they’ve cancelled their scheduled events & speeches at the RNC for this evening and now it looks like McSame won’t have a devastation backdrop against which he can give his acceptance speech! Oh, no! No tragedy to exploit! How can they show how compassionate McHypocrite is without a disaster?!

Nanotyrannus, there WAS a hurricane that “made love to” (or royally screwed) FL just recently … Lots of flooding, tons of damage, and I think 11 deaths. We got part of it in my section of the state (north central). No Dubya or McBush on hand for that one, no sir.If this weren’t an election year, any thinking person realizes the Booshies wouldn’t give a damn about N’awlins and environs anymore than they did three years ago.Maybe God is still pissed off at the Rethuglicans for that and that’s why He screwed up their convention plans. ;) (Seriously, hurricanes are no joke and I’m so glad it isn’t another Katrina.)
