Landslide Win For Obama

Nate Silver reports:

The CBS poll of undecideds has more confirmatory detail. Obama went from a +18 on “understanding your needs and problems” before the debate to a +56 (!) afterward. And he went from a -9 on “prepared to be president” to a +21.

+56! And the pundits are suggesting this was a tie? A tie?!

    McCain: “Landslide? Horseshit!”

  • ceu

Greg Mitchell asked the same question…http://www.huffingtonpost.com/greg-mitchell/why-did-so-many-pundits-f_b_129880.htmlBut here’s the key to the viewer/pundit disparity. It took awhile for McCain to build up to it, but then he hammered it home near the end: Obama, he charged, lacked the “knowledge and experience” to be president.Pundits highlighted that and said it was the key to McCain gaining at least a tie. But I didn’t hear a single person on TV point out: McCain just picked Palin for vice president! How, then, could he make such a charge against Obama?Everytime McGrumpy said Obama didn’t understand or called him naive, people like me were shouting “Sarah Palin” at the teevee machine.

Well, I called it a draw, but I get a pass, because I’m not a pundit. ;) Um. A question. Here’s a picture I “borrowed” from CNN: http://www.geocities.com/queentiye74/cnnpt1_obama_mccain_ap.JPGI didn’t see the walkout – was busy setting up my laptop. Did McCain not look at Obama EVEN during the handshake? Seriously? Because, that kinda turns my stomach.QT

McCain never visually acknowledged Obama. Not for one moment. There was actually a split second at the beginning when Lehrer all but held their hands like a grade-school yard duty to get them to engage, and McCain turned 90% of the way to face Obama, but never quite made the connect. He then immediately turned back to home base, which I can only assume was Cindy’s fantastic cans, cause he never looked away.Since this is the net and all, I posit a theory that has no basis, but I’m sure is true. The KKK was on site. They would love nothing more than for a White man to openly denigrate a Black man. By purposely acting the way he did John McCain sent a clear message of solidarity out to the racist elite. If you can justify this with ANY OTHER plausible reasoning, let’s hear it.Could someone do some research on file tape and see if there’s any history of this in McCain’s prior debates…I don’t recall him not looking at Romney and the rest of the Reptile Posse. He engaged w/ W in 2000. So, what OTHER rationale can there be for his open dismissal of a man who by our very Constitution warrants respect as his Party’s nominee.John McCain is openly racist.Racist: a belief that race is the primary determinant of human traits and capacities and that racial differences produce an inherent superiority of a particular race”Senator Obama doesn’t get it”Translation: Senator Obama is Black(btw, I’m a white guy, and have no axe to grind here. Please, propose an alternate theory”)

Oh, and Bob. I think it’s about time spell check learned that Obama is not a mis-spelling of “Obadiah”. Please forward this suggestion to your blog host! ;o)

OLD, crusty white guys are a trip!!! LOL!McCain, even to this day, cannot believe that he has to contend with this “uppity n-word”….Note to all Bigots/Racists-Get Over It!!!! If you don’t like what’s happening at this moment in history, I’m sure you can find another country to reside in!

Yes, I agree that Barack did pretty well. He was professional, unflappable, and knowledgeable. For those who haven’t been following the campaign and don’t have strong opinions yet, I’d say Obama didn’t give them any reason to think he would make a fool of himself (or them) once elected. This was a test of mettle and demeanor, and he passed it handily. McCain needed to show him up as unready and brash, and he failed to do that.

LFOD08 – the KKK stated outright that they would be in attendance: http://www.time.com/time/politics/article/0,8599,1844872,00.htmlThe thought of John McCain standing in solidarity with these types makes me ill. :( QT

I have been warning about BBQ framing of the debates for days–There is no question in my mind Obama won–it was not a drubbing, and I thought Obama had a lot of missed opportunities, but McCain was a mess of meandering nastiness without any specifics or substance. I don’t think the “I’m wrong he’s right” will suffice for McCain. The polls are interesting because it shows how smart Obama’s approach was–sure it wasn’t nasty, but Obama was VERY SPECIFIC on taxes, Iraq, diplomacy, Afgahanistan, Russia and a few others–I think those points resonated. We have become accustomed to looking for “the moment” (of which I thought Obama had a few that were cutting but subtle; Iraq=Wrong, McCain=Bush, 95% get tax cuts. One last point–THE EMPORER HAS NO CLOTHES. This BBQ meme has been McCain is a foreign policy GURU and wipes the floor with Obama on that–not only is that NOT TRUE that he is a guru–when compared with Obama the abosulte best framing possible for McCain produced a push–and in my mind Obama seemed more knowledgable, steadier, and more specificon policy–all McCain could say is “I’ve been there.” I think this is why the polls give Obama a win. What pisses me off about the framing is that if these numbers were reversed McCain would be HAILED! Why? Because our corporate media would rather “sell” a close rating earning race than give the people the truth.
