“I don’t have any friends like that!”Look for this same line to be reprised when BillO sits down to interview McCain and challenges him on his relationship with the other four co-conspirators in the Keating Five.

  • JG

I hope SNL goes to town and this silliness–

  • LiveFreeOrDie08

They’re blathering on at Faux News that BillO’s ratings are “crushing” Olberman.Um, fellas…TIVO?What you saw as “crushing” was actually a slice of Olberman’s audience watching O’Really to see the Obama interview 1st hand in the “No Clue Zone”. Kind of like getting that once a year rectal exam. Unpleasant, and you’d really rather not go there, but it’s gotta be done. I’m not planning to visit again anytime soon.So when the ratings go back down you can count that delta as the number of thinking humans out there that really, really think you’re a pinhead.

  • JG

How great would a landslide be? I keep thinking November 4th will come, and no one will have predicted how HUGE the movement actually was…

  • jane

Could we stop watching ANY cable news shows, in large enough numbers, to make a point to these assholes? (except Rachel, and Keith, and maybe Cafferty a little?)Oh, and howdy folks.

  • ceu

Special Comment on Countdown tonight – I think it’s on the politicizing of 9/11.

  • jane

Ha! Lipstick? Makeup? “Let’s talk about what they’ve been making up about Sarah Palin’s record…or the makeup of the Supreme Court?”-Jenny Backus on Hardball

  • PackyJ

JG – you could be right about current predictions being wrong.Keep in mind that:1. NO ONE with a cell phone gets called by the main pollsters.Virtually every one of Obama’s younger supporters don’t even have a land line – their cell is their ONLY phone.2. The main pollsters count “likely voters,” which THEY define as “people who voted in the LAST TWO presidential elections.”That leaves out every person under the age of 26, and completely ignores newly registered voters (which the Dems have been registering by the thousands and thousands) regardless of age.Trust me – the polls are skewed. Obama’s support is much bigger than the main pollsters think.

  • cminri

Okay…just so you all know..you are now officially my support group for all things political. I cant believe how incredibly pissed off I was all day!

  • jane

Vicey-versy, cm. That was me yesterday. (NC McCain up by 20?–Sadly, No! Up by 4 at PPP, among the likelies as Packy said, but also from a crowd 50% over age 45.)

  • jane

Wow. Watching Matthews put together several facts, following a trail of logic- i.e., if A then B, and if B then C, etc– head exploding.

  • http://www.broadwaycarl.blogspot.com Broadway Carl

What you saw as “crushing” was actually a slice of Olberman’s audience watching O’Really to see the Obama interview 1st hand in the “No Clue Zone”.

That’s why I watched it on The YouTubes. My TV doesn’t stop on Faux News.

  • cminri

    Richard Wolfe nailed it.

  • idreamofskiba

Do you guys think the BBQ media (not all of them, I’m sure, but at least some) are going to actually do their jobs this time around, or am I just getting my hopes up?

  • jane

Is McPalin running against Obama or the media? I’m confused.

  • jane

    Republican Woman=Oxymoran.

  • cminri

Where is all the push back by the surrogates?

  • idreamofskiba

Barbara Boxer did a pretty awesome job on Hardball.

  • http://www.broadwaycarl.blogspot.com Broadway Carl

Jane, apparently she’s running against both. And she’s not even at the top of the ticket.

  • jane

Ha! Sarah McCain! (Fallin on Bard Hall) Freudian much?

  • http://www.broadwaycarl.blogspot.com Broadway Carl

I heard Boxer on Ed Schultz today as well. She was great.

  • MCat

Did you all here, CBS made them take down the webad with couric in it?http://www.politico.com/blogs/bensmith/0908/CBS_takes_down_McCain_webad_suggests_its_misleading.html?showall

  • jane

They need to send that Debbie W-S out to every cable news show for balance. Last night against Peter “I’ll just lie louder” King? Calm, cool as a cucumber, on point. Schooled. Great side-by-side visual.

  • idreamofskiba

Boy, I bet the McCain campaign sure is glad they cried sexism.

  • cminri

Do you guys think this whole thing might become a turning point in this election? Or am I hoping against hope?

  • MCat

well I’ll hope with you cminri!

  • http://www.broadwaycarl.blogspot.com Broadway Carl

cm – do you mean that the GOP has gone too far in it’s accusations and voters are going to be tired of it? If so, then I doubt it. Too many idiots in the country.

  • idreamofskiba

I’m kind of thinking and hoping that too, cminri. How could anyone take them serious after this?

  • idreamofskiba

Wait never mind when I said “how could anyone take them serious after this?” That was stupid of me…because I don’t even know how they were taken serious before.

  • kansasdem

I just want to throw this out everywhere I can:”Something I’d really like to see is truthful accounting of “money in – money out” regarding so-called earmarks!I have seen some obscure reporting about Alaska’s “money in – money out”, meaning that Alaska as a whole pays less tax than it receives from the federal government. That means the rest of us American’s pay to support Alaskans!Personally I don’t have a problem with that as long as there’s a real reason. I may be wrong, but I suspect there are many underdeveloped areas that kind of work that way. It’s part of the “we’re in this together” strategy. OTOH, it seems that McCain’s strategy is “you’re on your own”! And he loves to point out that he’s never asked for an earmark. So what is Arizona’s claim to fame? How is it that they do so well with no earmarks? I’d like to see some numbers. From Wikipedia:”Arizona currently has the 21st largest economy among states in the United States. As a percentage of its overall budget, Arizona’s projected 1.7 billion deficit for ’09 is the largest in the country.”So lets look at some numbers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Since posting this under OINK I looked further, and gosh:”The 2006 total gross state product for Illinois was nearly $589 billion USD, placing it 5th in the nation. The 2004 per capita income was $34,721 USD.”No fucking difference between Alaska, Arizona, and Illinois at all huh?The residents of Illinois (and most other states) are helping to pay Alaskans just to be part of America!John McBush’s America is an America where we’re all on our own! I’m sure he feels that it’s a good idea to turn all of our prisons into tent cities. That’ll work well when he decides to imprison debtors!

  • cminri

Carl..I guess thats what I mean..but I also mean..do you think media will grow a pair and see these baseless attacks for what they are..diversions from the real issues. Wait..what was I thinking!?!?! This is the Corporate media we are talking about….those who have no conscience. (and btw, my name is Caroline)…nice to meet ya!

  • http://www.broadwaycarl.blogspot.com Broadway Carl

Nice to meet you, Carloline. I’m guessing your last name starts with an ‘M’? Those are my initials too.

  • idreamofskiba

Oh no, what the hell is he doing?http://thecaucus.blogs.nytimes.com/2008/09/10/biden-musings-on-hillary-clinton/

  • jane

“The chairman of the Republican Party in Macomb County Michigan, a key swing county in a key swing state, is planning to use a list of foreclosed homes to block people from voting in the upcoming election…”- Michigan Messenger via The Political Carnival.

  • jane

What is happening while we discuss similes.

  • cminri

Yes Carl…last name begins with M. (The “inri” part means in Rhode Island where I proudly reside!

  • idreamofskiba

Jane – shouldn’t that be illegal?!?!?!?!!I feel sick again.

  • jane
  • MCat

that was a pretty awesome special comment

  • cminri

Im afraid to follow that link..i was just starting to feel good again…

  • MCat

jane, I was just going to post that, I live in Michigan, though Oakland County, but Macomb county is my neighbor, its just getting sick out here and I’m hearing it happening in Ohio too

  • jane

    Skiba- you’ve seen this, right?

  • http://www.broadwaycarl.blogspot.com Broadway Carl

Caroline – I figured the Rhode Island part, but I didn’t want to freak you out with my awesome powers of deductive reasoning. That and sometimes I use cminnyc. ;)

  • jane

    Oooga Boooga!

  • http://www.broadwaycarl.blogspot.com Broadway Carl

Or as Vlad Rudy would say, “Did I thcare you?”

  • cminri

@ carl – didnt want you to think the “inri” had any kind of biblical connotation! (and btw..you always freak me out….without even trying!)

  • idreamofskiba

Jane – I think you just ruined my day.

  • http://www.broadwaycarl.blogspot.com Broadway Carl

That’s why I don’t read any of Jane’s links until the next day. I prefer to sleep at night. Or at least try.

  • http://www.broadwaycarl.blogspot.com Broadway Carl

Caroline… what do you mean? INRI = I’m Nailed Right In?

  • cminri

Yes Carl, you hit the nail on the hea….oops…

  • jane

Whoa Carl-Obama reads yer Blog-O-Mania! (McCain’s the pig, she’s the lipstick.) Congratulations.

  • cminri

Can you just imagine the meetings the McSame camp has trying to figure out how to hit Obama next…I would love to see a tape of them…

  • jane

Caroline, you imply that they meet…and make plans, instead of just upchucking any old thing to distract us.Upchucking…It’s Hockey-Mommyey!

  • cminri

You have a good point there Jane… I guess I am giving them way too much credit. You know I didnt think it was possible that I could dislike anyone more the GWB…but I was wrong x 2.

  • http://www.broadwaycarl.blogspot.com Broadway Carl

Yeah Jane – I’ve got my finger on the pulse of the campaign. HAHAHAHA!

It was a little weird though when I added on one of Bob’s comment threads and then on my post that I contemplated it could be “a direct ‘FUCK YOU’ to the McCain camp with plausible deniability” and then I heard the wingnuts on The Hardballs™ start using that as their reason for accusing Obama. I’m starting to think like the enemy.

  • idreamofskiba

Someone link to something that’ll make me feel a little better again. I’m afraid to go out looking on my own right now…

  • cminri

Here’s a quote I just cut and pasted from a local message board -”I feel forced to vote McCain (far from a first choice) because I feel this Obama thing is nothing but a manipulation. Ahh for the good ol’ days”- How does someone come to this conclusion?!??! I feel like we live in a parallel universe!!!!!!

  • jane

    Here you go, Skiba!

  • idreamofskiba

What is “Ahh for the good ol’ days” supposed to mean?I don’t understand these people at all. My boss (a republican) said to me the other day “I was thinking about voting for Obama, but he just seems shady.” WTF?!?!?!??!

  • jane

Or this may be more what you’re looking for.

  • http://www.broadwaycarl.blogspot.com Broadway Carl

They feel Obama is the manipulator? Excuse me while I go have some tea with the Hatter, March Hare and Dormouse. WHAT THE FUCK?!

  • cminri

Im starting to think that half the population is legally insane. (Guess which half?!?!?!)

  • idreamofskiba

Jane – You are awesome! How did you know The Soup is one of my favorite shows ever? Thanks for the other one, too. But I’m confused…I kept hearing yesterday that Obama’s campaign was having money troubles, how is that so if last month was record breaking?

  • http://www.broadwaycarl.blogspot.com Broadway Carl

“I was thinking about voting for Obama, but he just seems shady.”

    Shady as in “dark”?

Here’s the problem. No matter what anyone says, there’s always going to be an underlying current of racism connected with Obama. It’s inherent, and more overt depending on where you grow up. They can have the best of intentions, but deep in the recesses of their minds and hearts, the feeling is there. It’s a sad but true reality. I see it and hear it all the time.

  • jane

Skiba, that’s your Liberal Media at work.

  • jane

Now, Skibaricious, if I may, I am only assuming that the story you heard was courtesy The Liberal Media. However, I have also heard that Obama is a Muslim with *gasp* a black daughter.

  • http://www.broadwaycarl.blogspot.com Broadway Carl

What?! Obama has a black daughter? Well then how in the world can I vote for him? I guess I’ll vote for McCain… did you know he was a POW? How can you go wrong? He’s such a maverick!

  • cminri

I heard he was a “community organizer” with no real responsibilities..

  • cminri

You know what..my first car was a Maverick…it broke down a lot. Im just sayin….

  • idreamofskiba

Good point, Carl. That could be the case because when we (thankfully I work with 3 other Obama supporters) point out all McCain’s bullshit, or just republican bullshit in general, he shrugs it off and says “that’s just the way it is.”

  • idreamofskiba

Sorry, Jane. I keep forgetting I’m not supposed to believe the liberal media.Hey, what’s all this talk about Obama having a black daughter? Did I miss something? Someone also mentioned something about McCain being a POW. Is that true? I may have to rethink who I’m voting for.

  • http://www.broadwaycarl.blogspot.com Broadway Carl

Right, Skiba – they know what the right thing is logically, but it’s ingrained in them. I work occasionally with a colleague who still calls himself a Republican even though I remind him that that party doesn’t exist anymore.

Anyway, he told me during the primaries that if it came down to Hillary vs. McCain he would vote for McCain and if it came down to Obama vs. McCain he would vote Obama.

The next time I saw him was after Obama had pretty much sewn up the nomination and I asked, “So, what do you say? Are you voting for Obama?” He replied, “I’m still reserving judgment.” And then he started spewing all the typical talking points. They just can’t help themselves.

  • cminri

Question for you guys…how and when did you come to support Obama? Just curious…

  • jane

Carl, here’s a good Maverick analogy.

  • http://www.broadwaycarl.blogspot.com Broadway Carl

Well gang, I’m outta here. It’s been fun tonight. Going to meet the wife for a drink , go home and watch Olbermann and Madddow, maybe a quick post (but probably not) and then get four hours sleep for the next day!

Jane, Skiba, Caroline, Kansas, JG, LiveFree, ceu… always a pleasure. Thanks for the thread, Bob!

  • cminri

Hey Jane..that may have been my old car!

  • Zanath

omg did I just hear Candy Crowley (or one of those ignorant CNNers) say that voters are beginning to think McCain-Palin are fresher faces and that Obama is the one becoming a typical politician? Really?

  • idreamofskiba

Carl – It’s something I will never understand. I know there’s people out there who do think that way, but I just don’t get it at all. Never have. Even when I was a little girl I would get very upset at racist remarks, and at that age I’m pretty sure I didn’t even know what racism meant. Even if people were raised to think that way, how could they not eventually come to a point where they realize it’s so ridiculous? It doesn’t even make sense.

  • http://www.broadwaycarl.blogspot.com Broadway Carl

Now if we can find a pic of a Barracuda with lipstick on the grill, we’d be set! Goodnight all.

  • cminri

    Bye Carl…have fun!

  • jane

Nite, Carl!Zanath, follow these easy steps:1. Place fingers in ears.2. Say LALALALALALALA3. ?4. PROFIT!!!!

  • idreamofskiba

    Have a good night, Carl.

  • kansasdem

“Oh no, what the hell is he doing?http://thecaucus.blogs.nytimes.com/2008/09/10/biden-musings-on-hillary-clinton/Posted by: idreamofskiba [TypeKey Profile Page] at September 10, 2008 08:45 PM”What should he have said?

  • Zanath

That’s pretty much what I did Jane. But still. I haven’t watched the news at all since I have been back at school so this was my first exposure to it in a while.

  • Tbest609

Unfortunately, i never get to watch the shows live, but i read everyones post and follow along. Thanks for keeping the night interesting. It’s not to know there are some like minded people out there.

  • idreamofskiba

Kansasdem – I’m not sure what he should have said, or if it was necessarily a bad thing.I can already see it though – “Obama’s own running mate doesn’t think he made a wise decision in his VP selection.”

  • jane

Some say Candy is not good for you.

  • jane

So…we can bust the ex-boyfriend of Princess Diaries Anne Hathaway for wire fraud, but not this administration??(goes to watch Spaghetti Cat again)

  • jane

what did I mean, ‘wire fraud’?Eh, they prolly did that too.

  • idreamofskiba

You guys & girls are the best.Good night.

  • jane

    nite all. thx Bob! xxxxoooo

  • MonkeyHawk

Does John S (for Senile) McCain the Third (for Shrub’s 3rd term) own another suit?We all know the Arizona Beer Queen spent something like $300,000 a night for the outfits she wore at the Republic Party convention. Remember that clingy chromakey-green number that looked like it was made out of a discontinued ShamWow color, and the $800 shoes that were molded to her feet by imported Italian cobblers?Okay, the country club bling-bling diamonds and pearls skewed Cindy’s per diem wardrobe budget; we don’t know whether she bought them just for theoccasion. But do you think we’ll ever see that yellow monstrosity with the Elvis-at-the-Flamingo collar again? Looked like something from the Prymaat Conehead couture collection. But McCodger keeps wearing that same frumpy black suit from the Men’s Wearhouse bargain rack. He makes John Fiedler look like a GQ model. And he wears it everywhere. On the golf course in George HW Bush’s cart. When he’s serving up dry-rubs to his media lackeys. When he’s checkin’ out Quayle with a rack his Moose-Dressing running mate. The same damned suit. And he keeps the coat buttoned to hide his belt-at-the-armpits when he goes full Fred Mertz.Should fashion sense make a difference in a presidential election? Why not? It’s about as stupid as most CONs’ rants
