I’m liveblogging the coverage for the Huffington Post tonight. So use this thread to join along. I’ll be popping in to add my thoughts here as well. But mainly, I’ll be over at Huffington. Go!

    I think taking Palin off the ticket is just as bad as keeping her on it. Either way, McCain has royaly fucked himself. It was a terrible choice all around. If he leaves her on, she provides tons of fodder for the media and his judgement for picking her is questioned. If he takes her off, she… provides fodder and judgement.

    I think they’ve gotten all the benefits they could have hoped for already, even (especially?) if they take Palin off the ticket now- they distracted us (okay, the McCainstream Media-thanks, Elvis?) from talking about the amazing speech that millions of people heard from Obama the night before, distracted us from the anniversary of Cake on the Tarmac while New Orleans drowned, got (a few) Republicans excited again…Nothing sticks to Teflon John, it seems.

    I know Broadway :) but it’s telling that they constantly parade about on the memories of long dead Republicans that honestly have no connection to any of them. I heard someone last year describe political parties as really coalition vessels. The politics and platforms shift and change constantly. The Democratic and Republican Parties of today are not what they were in the time of Lincoln, but that doesn’t stop Republicans from trying to claim his legacy.Lincoln would have kicked McCain in the nuts, but knew he might lose the election if it got out that he’d whooped a 10 year old.

    “To be fair to Senator Obama, Rep. Wilson was not complete in that context of what she said. Sen Obama at no point said “let thm die”. His argument in voting against that measure in the Illinois State legistature, was that laws already on the books in Illinois already covered that horrific situation and I believe Rep. Wilson knows that.”
