Bob–Thank you for your truly inspired work. I think this may be your best one yet–hit all the right notes–and thank you about the “overrated” Edie McClurg reference–hilarious and true. Can someone tell me exactly what was so great about that lie laden nasty speech? Was it compelling TV, yes–but this is again the false balance our BBQ media presents to us–Obama is a great orator so…so is Palin…Anyway, I still agree that Obama will win, but I am very nervous–not because of Obama, but because our media is so pathetic. And as you said, the issues are too serious–Supreme Court anyone? Kiss it goodbye for 40 years if the Karl Rove tactics work again…

In many ways I’m hoping McCain et al get the job… stupid ass americans should get what they deserve.

  • Leigh

Awesome, as usual, Bob. How can people be so blatantly stupid AGAIN?What are the solutions? I do believe the Obama campaign needs money. I read that yesterday. Donate. Donate. Donate. I’m also getting e-mails from 527 groups who are in need of money. Time to take out those wallets, people.

  • Leigh

Seriously, what are these people thinking? Third time’s bound to be a charm? Grrrr.

jemmat, I can leave but most people can’t. In a way, I agree–but I don’t think we can afford one more day of this, let alone another possible 8 years!Going to a Lou Dobbs/idiot/CNN event tomorrow locally. Need some sign ideas: Soccer Moms for Obama, Middle Class Moms for Obama, Stay at home Moms for Obama, pro-family, pro-Obama. Suggestions welcome!

Bob, you’re the greatest. I’m sending this as required reading to everyone I know.

I think we’ve reached a frustration level where folks are ready to move from the pages to the pavement.Who’s ready to stand up and demonstrate?Time to get visible, people.

bob, have you seen this yet?http://wyden.senate.gov/newsroom/record.cfm?id=302677&September 2, 2008The Honorable Samuel W. BodmanU.S. Department of Energy1000 Independence Avenue, SWWashington, DC 20585Dear Secretary Bodman,On June 3, 2008 and July 30, 2008 respectively, your Department issued and affirmed an order pursuant to Section 3 of the Natural Gas Act that will allow two major integrated oil companies – ConocoPhillips and Marathon Oil – to export 98.1 billion cubic feet of Alaskan natural gas to Japan and other Pacific Rim countries. This order, which will allow the export of as much natural gas as is used by 1.4 million American families in a year, comes at a time when the President had demanded that the moratoria on oil and gas drilling along our environmentally-sensitive coastal areas be lifted and Americans are being warned that their winter heating bills are going to be dramatically higher. The Administration is trying to have it both ways – arguing that we need to drill everywhere because we don’t have adequate energy supplies, while finding that we have so much energy that big oil companies can export it overseas and keep prices here at home higher than they would otherwise be.

over on andrew sullivan-http://andrewsullivan.theatlantic.com/the_daily_dish/2008/09/what-obama-shou.html#morei just wish there was a way to get this to the campaign…(‘s why im posting it here….’cause if i were them, i’d read bob…. :) )What Obama Should Say10 Sep 2008 01:13 pmA reader proposes:”Yesterday I talked to a group of voters about how the McCain campaign is trying to call their continuation of just about every single Bush-Cheney policy of the last eight years “change.” In doing so, I used a common, hundred-year-old phrase that we all understand: You can put lipstick on a pig, but it’s still a pig. Now the McCain campaign demands that I apologize for saying this. Everyone, it seems, wants to hear my answer. Here it is: NO.No, I will not apologize for telling the American people the truth: That McCain and Palin represent a stunning, and disastrous, continuation of Bush and Cheney’s policies. Policies of sacrificing the middle class to give huge tax cuts to millionaires and big corporations. Policies that prevent Americans from getting the health care they need. Policies that would privatize Social Security and take away a woman’s right to choose. No, I will not apologize for saying the truth, even if it hurts John McCain’s and Sarah Palin’s feelings. Because this is not about them. And it’s not about me. It’s about you. These past eight years, Americans have suffered a lot more than hurt feelings . . . [insert brief litany of Bush disasters here].You are the ones who have been hurt, and someone has to fight for you. And I will do that, even if it gets me in trouble. There’s a word I’ve heard from the McCain campaign recently: “deference.” No one is going to ask Sarah Palin a question, they say, unless they show her “deference.” Joe Biden points out that they oppose all stem cell research, and they are offended he even mentioned it. I point out that their claim of bringing change is ridiculous, and they demand an apology. Apparently we are not showing them enough deference.Let me explain something to Senator McCain and Governor Palin, as deferentially as I can: This is a democracy — not a monarchy. You don’t get to demand “deference” from the American people as if they were your royal subjects. You — and I — and everyone who seeks elected office must defer to the American people, and answer their questions, and fight for them even when it’s politically inconvenient. That is what I promise to do. Thank You.”Permalink :: Trackback (0) :: Sphere It!

mme–great post. I read that too–I honestly think it would a a smart idea to start incorporating stuff like this into his appearances and ads–he needs to be tougher like this–the high road just isn’t cutting through the noise–and with the BBQ media, it never will. The bottom line is that with issue-less campaign framing by our media, you are either on offense or defense. The McCain campaign has been on offense since the beginning with the exception of a few days last week when the media had the nerve to question Palin’s surrogates (not even Palin herself) on the issues. He needs to try and get back on offense–the problem is the refs are the BBQ media–

  • mme6546

thanks jg! :) the thing is….if he said something like that (above) he can be on the offense, without being offensive.there’s not a damn reason in the world he cant keep the high road, and still stop the noise.hell…at this point maybe the media would cover it just for the novelty of truth…..
