Obama vs. O’Reilly

I agree with Amato that Senator Obama’s interview with Bill O’Reilly didn’t get enough attention. Here’s their conversation about the economy and taxes.

If anyone thinks this candidate can’t bring it — and bring it hard — they’re not watching.

UPDATE: I don’t know what you guys are seeing, but apart from O’Reilly being a jagoff like always, Senator Obama didn’t let O’Reilly steamroll him. Obama kicked ass — which is why I posted this.

the discussion will go over the heads of most voters.those people will hear and see O’Reilly talking louder and more forcefully, and therefore deem him the winner in this exchange.that is very damaging.we need to figure out more and better ways to relate to the common man.meanwhile, the democrats are for the common man and republicans ain’t, and the republicans are winning with the common man, ironic isn’t it.

Wait a minute – doesn’t Obama’s plan call for some sort of mandatory participation in 401K or similar plans? Am I hallucinating that? Because if that’s the case – we’re looking at WAY more investments, and a radical shift in the power of investment houses.animalhamilton – some of that went over the heads of the common man, but some of it didn’t. Tax cuts for 95 percent of Americans – people O’Reilly cares about, and “Robin Hood Obama” I think are fairly good soundbytes, come to think of it.The income redistribution = socialism thing needs to be combatted. Saying Teddy Roosevelt supported it doesn’t help anything. Saying – tithing at church is income redistribution might.QT

Key word – immigrants. O’Reilly threw that out there. I think a lot of people do feel we’re in the economic mess we’re in because of immigration and wont get past that argument. It seems some will go against what is in their own best interest if they feel it will in any way at all benefit people they don’t like. I’m getting off topic a little bit, but as soon as you throw that word out there, that’s all some people need to hear. Blame everything on immigrants – I know a lot of people who do just that.Oh, and I like how O’Reilly kept throwing exaggerated numbers out there. Man, I can’t stand that guy.Obama did great, though. He just always makes too much damn sense.

there is no doubt that Obama wins the policy debate, but,I believe most people would think O’Reilly won this exchange – based not on the content, because most people would not be able to hang with the content – but based on tone and tenor of the exchange – with O’Reilly’s jaggoffery stealing the show.to the common man: he who is angrier and more forceful, gets the win.that is the way republicans campaign.which is (part of the reason) why the race is so close, despite Obama and the democrats being right on the overwhelming majority of the issues.

I’m a father, and one of the things I teach my kids is to NEVER LIE. I tell them that if you lie to me about one thing, how then can I ever trust you’re telling me the truth about ANYTHING? Conversely, I will always respect you if you tell me the truth, no matter how bad. I may not like it, I may get mad, but I’ll respect you.So, can someone please stand up and say “The Republicans have LIED to you for EIGHT YEARS. McCain is LYING TO YOU EVERY DAY IN THIS CAMPAIGN. How can you possibly then trust that ANYTHING they say is TRUE? If you CAN’T TRUST THEM, how can you give them your vote??”The Reptiles have been using this meme AGAINST Obama for over a year now…with NO EVIDENCE that he’s ever lied, but the logic is “if he lies…you can’t trust him, EVER”. McCain/Palin are now PROVEN LIERS by any number of independent organizations….sooooo….um, the meme is still valid, right Reptiles???

Hey, please post more of this as I’ve seen very little and believe Obama took this on to reach an audience he couldn’t reach any other way. Unfortunately, I haven’t seen much of it posted online.

Totally in agreement with Bob on this one. O’Reilly was a total jerk, but Senator Obama did juuuuust fine.

I agree with Bob that Obama rocked, but here’s my issue with the whole interview: it was done solely to shut O’ Reilly the fuck up and give him his “win,” finally forcing Obama to endure his bullshit.McCain, in a similar interview, will be allowed to spew the usual Republican Talking Points. Eliminate capital gains tax. Tax cuts for Americans (psssst! We mean rich folk!) increases revenue and creates jobs. Budget can be balanced if we get Democrat congress to stop it’s earmarks. McCain would never have to demonstrate that he knows the machinery of our economy. O’ Reilly would nod like a good little automaton.I’m glad O did well, but he’s not going to win over Fox viewers. This has the same weight as going to Mega Church SaddlebackLand. Nice, but ultimately futile.
