Out. Of. Her. Depth.

Doy!

Speaking before voters in Colorado Springs, the Republican vice presidential nominee claimed that lending giants Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac had “gotten too big and too expensive to the taxpayers.” The companies, as McClatchy reported, “aren’t taxpayer funded but operate as private companies. The takeover may result in a taxpayer bailout during reorganization.”

And some people out there in our nation don’t have maps and such as. More eviscerating from Dean Baker:

“You would like to think that someone who is going to be vice president and conceivable president would know what Fannie and Freddie do,” said Dean Baker, co-director of the Center for Economic and Policy Research. “These are huge institutions and they are absolutely central to our country’s mortgage debt. To not have a clue what they do doesn’t speak well for her, I’d say.”

Yep. We need a team of economic doofs running the country in the midst of the worst economic crisis since the Great Depression. McCain thinks the economy is strong, and I wouldn’t be surprised if Palin thinks Fannie Mae is this and Freddie Mac is this.

UPDATE: Ezra Klein:

it’s not a gaffe. It’s much simpler: Palin didn’t know the answer. Amidst a housing crisis, she didn’t know how the country’s largest lenders operate, and wasn’t aware that they weren’t taxpayer funded. It would be interesting to find out if McCain could give an actual answer as to how the lenders work…

Right! It’s not unlike invading Iraq without knowing the difference between Sunni and Shia. .

This is exactly why the McCain camp is trying to keep her away from the press. She’s finally asked a question and blows it. Or did she offer this information voluntarily?

But you know what’ll happen, the uninformed will take the bait and think that Fannie and Freddie were government programs. Remember that they initally were, but thought they could do better in the free market… and now we’re bailing them out.

Right up there with her cred as a Pledge of Allegiance Scholar. She IS Bush…a C student with the red meat dopes in tow.She attended 5 colleges in 6 years, her grades not available during the vetting process. B’yotch is slightly younger than me…they’d look at mine. They’re trying to slip this turd under our door.

Ya havta wonder who wrote that line for her – probably one of the economic doofs that got us into this colossal mess.People keep saying how smart she is…I ain’t seeing it.

Really,This is unbelievable. You can do a goddamn wikipedia search and learn this. Why is it that only the ‘extreme left’ or the ‘left blogosphere’ are up in arms about this? Really? I am dumbfounded.

Out of her depth indeed. I’ve really had enough of this. I want to metaphorically slap America into reality. So in a bid to keep my blood pressure at normal levels, I’m taking a week off and heading to Scotland where I can drown my sorrows in the finest malt whisky and kilted men.If you could arrange for a Palin meltdown in my absence, it would be most appreciated. Bye bye.

Now that Fannie and Freddie are going to be taxpayer funded institutions, and since they are the engine that keeps America (and the world) afloat, does that mean we’re a Socialist States of America? When will they readjusting those mortgages DOWN? When will they start rewriting every ARM out there as a conventional loan slightly above the Prime Rate?Who are the taxpayers that will sit on the Board? How much say will “We the People” be given in how much Fannie and Freddie can charge? I propose it to be the exact rate that the Feds charge, such as 1.5% loan.Call me crazy but I wouldn’t mind these right wing Christians if they would only do what the Bible tells them to do, such as every 7 years completely wipe away debt and let everyone who needs to, start anew. These mortgage debts have already been written off but the banks are still trying to collect for a loan that on the balance sheet no longer exists. SO why not create an enforcement arm of Fannie and Freddie to sue banks that don’t forgive loans that they themselves have already have forgiven. We would see an incredible transformation in this country People would own their house outright. They wouldn’t be forced to move. They would have to pay their taxes which cities depend on. With that money they can rebuild our basic infrastructure that has made many places in our cities unsafe.

BradThe right doesn’t care. They’ve been denying facts and reality for such a long time that they wouldn’t even know what it is you’re talking about, so really, it’s just a non-issue with them. They’re too busy living the fantasy that they mistakenly label as faith. Facts are of this world and therefore are to be avoided lest they taint one’s faith. That’s it. That’s all there is too it. Pretty simple, isn’t it?That’s also why the consequences of their decisions is not a factual reality for them: they decide, the devil interferes. It’s why this world is not perfect. So for you to suggest that one of them do a wikipedia search can easily be construed as an insult to their faith. If anyone is interested in my former life as a right wing Christian, here’s my BO Blog:http://my.barackobama.com/page/community/post/fsoul

Speaking before voters in Colorado Springs, the Republican vice presidential nominee claimed that lending giants Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac had “gotten too big and too expensive to the taxpayers.”Yeah I totally agree. We should totally privatize Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae. Private owners could soooo manage that better than a government agency. I mean, shit, isn’t that obvious?

You see things like this and her flip flop on earmarks and the bridge to nowhere and all of McCain’s position switches in the last few years and still the headlines are lists of “McCain Hits Obama!” “Palin Hits Obama!” “RNC Hits Obama!” Where the hell are the “Biden hits anything!” headlines? WHERE THE FUCK ARE IS OUR TICKET? Oh yeah, there out there talking about what good friends they are of McCain’s and what a here he is, but you know, they disagree with him and all. So that’s good.

Why would the GOP Party and Senator McCain nominiate someone for Vice President who once belonged or had affiliations with a group who wants to secede from the United States, The Alaskan Independence Party (AIP) whose motto is put Alaskan First, not Country First? And what does that tell you about the Republican Party?Sarah Palin who could possibly be our next Vice Presient and/or President has a long time affiliation with the AIP , group which wants to separate from the United States, whose motto is Alaska First—Alaska Always.” Sarah Palin’s husband also has a long-time mebership with this group, the Alaskan Independence Party. Officially, the AIP is a political party which advocates, in part, becoming a separate nation or commonwealth state… The party has appeared on the ballot in Alaska in all state elections since 1970. At other times, party members have also proposed that the state explore the possibility of joining Canada. Here is a Link to Sarah Palin addressing the Alaska Independence Party in 2007 wherein she tells them “Your party plays an important role in our state’s politics … keep up the good work, and God bless you.”http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZwvPNXYrIyIFrom Blogspot: http://divasblueoasis.blogspot.com/“Governor Palin’s connections with the AIP are also furthered by her connection to Wally Hickel, a former Alaskan governor. Hickel was elected on the AIP ticket. He served as the co-chairman of Governor Palin’s campaign in 2006 Here is a quote from an interview Hickel did with the Alaska Dispatch:When Palin was running for governor in 2006, Hickel appeared in advertisements supporting her and the Alaska pipeline.“I made her governor,” Hickel told me. “That is an important and telling admission that Hickel, a long-time AIP member believes that he made Sarah Palin governor! He wa also co-chairman of her campaign for Governor. These things deserve observation and thought into the true character of Sarah Palin!Daily Kos’s muckrakers“Officials of the Alaskan Independence Party say that Palin was once so independent, she and her husband were once member of their party, which, since the 1970s, has been pushing for a legal vote for Alaskans to decide whether or not residents of the 49th state can secede from the United State. And while McCain’s motto — is “Country First,” the AIP’s motto is the exact opposite—“Alaska First—Alaska Always.”McCain Camp likes to dispute the fact that Sarah Palin and her husband were/are members of this Separative Group. However, Lynette Clark, the chairman of the AIP, told ABC News on Monday that Palin and her husband Todd were members in 1994, even attending the 1994 statewide convention in Wasilla. Clark was AIP secretary at the time.Earlier this year, Palin sent a video message to the AIP for its annual convention, where AIP vice chair George Clark told the small crowd that Palin “was an AIP member before she got the job as a mayor of a small town –- that was a non-partisan job. But you get along to go along -– she eventually joined the Republican Party, where she had all kinds of problems with their ethics, and well, I won’t go into that. She also had about an 80 percent approval rating, and is pretty well sympathetic to her former membership.”Sept. 1, 2008, Blog: Political Punch/TrackBack URL for this entry:http://www.typepad.com/t/trackback/433071/32981078

“I’m taking a week off and heading to Scotland where I can drown my sorrows in the finest malt whiskey and kilted men.” – recruitgalTake me with you, pleeeeease! :D I have a harp — you’d be surprised how it can open doors.Let’s all keep repeating the mantra: Palin = Bush, over and over, a la the Republicans’ say-it-enough-times-and-it-becomes-the-truth. Every day I get more disgusted at the GOP’s willful deceits (swillful too), as an intelligent woman, a responsible voter, and a compassionate citizen.

Just sent this to MSNBC:What class at MBA school taught you to throw your two highest valued assets under the bus??You guys are making a bad situation worse. We understood the coverage was a mess and accepted it because we know that everyone at MSNBC is still trying to find their way post-Russert. Just stay out of the way, eh? This is a critical moment in history, boys (look at some of your own news footage)…you should expect, and I encourage, commitment from your news team. Truth does not always have to be “balanced” with a lie..And if you made this move for ratings…OMG!! You really are morons!!For years Democrats have made clear the case that Fox News is an appendage of the Right Wing, and they’ve done nothing in response. Some rabid Republicans chant “NBC” one night at a convention and within days you guys cave?? You’re just idiots.Hey why don’t you guys put that guy on that hosts To Catch a Predator!! At least he’ll call b*llsh!t when he hears it!————–Your turn. email: letters@msnbc.com
