Via GottaLaff, here’s some Thom Hartmann wisdom from today:

This could be the October Surprise: If we end up with a Bush/Reid/Pelosi bill, and if Obama ums and ahs down the middle on it, and if McCain becomes the champion against CEOs, it will be a rock around Obama’s neck. And that could sink him. And it would be a disaster.

I couldn’t agree more. The whole notion of anything bearing the label “Bush/Reid/Pelosi” makes me want to break something. Something big. But if my hunch is correct, Senator Obama will spend the next six weeks outflanking McCain when it comes to this bailout. I just don’t think McCain can sell himself on the economy. Meanwhile, Senator Obama will probably follow Senator Dodd’s lead on the bailout — or vice versa.

ADDING: Thom Hartmann has been predicting this financial meltdown, and its similarity to the early days of the Depression, since at least February 2006.

Obama needs to endorse the Dodd initiative on the bailout, and must avoid his usual tendency to pontificate. But, it seems to be very hard for Senator Obama not to continually act like he’s presenting a Case Study at Harvard Law.

I generally love reading your post and more times than not when I am anxious I turn to your post; but, sometimes I find you go just a little in the wrong directions. I don’t think McCain is going to win this war. The democrats have the house and from what I am seeing and hearing (I live in New York) they are very much following Obama’s lead and making the demands that he has voiced. Knowing Obama I have no doubt that he is in touch with his party putting forward what he will accept. Although I am sure there will be some concessions, the gist of what he wants will win the day. You need to wake up to the fact that Obama is a general and he is not playing to lose. Remember your picture that said “chill the fuck out, I got this?” Believe that, as I did after stealing it for my desktop. Let’s not start losing faith now. We knew assholes like Rush, O’Reilly and others were out there when we started. They will not win if we stay focused and constantly keep putting their shit out there.

It sounds like no matter what the Dems do, the GOP is gonna hammer them The GOP hacks are telling Republican Congresscritters not to vote for any plan. They will distance themselves from BushCo., and then either blame the Dems for saddling America with a huge debt or doing nothing. Either way, Dems lose. Even if the GOP does support one of the plans put forth, Obama’s hands will be tied as far as programs using discretionary funds…if he’s elected. They’ve fucked us over and I, for one, didn’t enjoy it.

The Dems are gonna cave…I mean, it’s sad, but we all know it’s gonna happen. The best strategy that I have heard of thus far is Shumer’s. Create a massive fund, approve it’s existence if deemed necessary, but give stewardship of the rate of disbursal to a joint session of the Banking Committees. It signals the markets that stability is on the horizon, but it doesn’t allow for the indiscriminate fleecing of a taxpayer funded backstop.Repugs can’t claim inaction, and they can’t point to “runaway spending”. We make sure the oversight board has equal representation, so Repugs have just as much to lose when this goes south.
