one more thing about no eye contact, and BBQ media framing. I would think most people know that when you avoid eye contact you are showing insecurity and WEAKNESS.While the BBQ media is talking about it, they are giving a muddled reasoning behind it: angry, tough, “that’s McCain,” doesn’t like Obama. The last one, if true, making McCain seem very unreasonable as Obama has been nothing but classy and respectful throughout.Question for the BBQ pit? Why aren’t you calling the lack of eye contact: WEAKNESS? I know it doesn’t fit into the mavricky/POW narrative but I’m sorry, McCain showed a lot of weakness last night. There are certain universal HUMAN truths about eye contact. I’d be shocked if SNL did not make this the central joke of the debate.

I still wonder what the October surprise will be???????????Obama fucked monkeys in a zoo??????????????Honestly, McCain is pathetic! His choice of Palin shows it!What are they going to throw out here?????????????

  • kansasdem

Ooooh, just talked to my oldest son. I know what the October surprise is!McCain went to DC and got the House Republican’ts “on track” to protect the taxpayers from a Federalized Wall Street. The so-called “insurance” that Wall Street pays for will be like flood insurance. Since no one else will insure against such a loss it get’s put on the back of the taxpayer! It’s called “hide-n-seek”! They hide the intent and seek the money from the middle class! But they sell the idea like it’s better for the taxpayer and the roughly 50% that voted for Bush both times buy it lock-stock-n-barrel!It’s just more of the same regressive taxation that Reagan implemented!!!!!!!!Guaranteed!Bet me!

Here’s a clip of McCain v. Bush in 2000. Similar setting. Notice any difference??http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=50c2kgvojCsThere’s no good way out of this for Johnny. He treats Hillary with respect, so it’s not a Democrat thing. He engages other politicians in debates, so it’s not a strategery thing. He moved from behind the podium 2x and still purposely evaded eye contact, so it’s not a POW-I-can’t-look-left thing. He’s debated a black man before so it’s not a racist thing.Wait a tick. Have another look at this clip. He purposely evades eye contact with Alan Keyes. Eventually he stares him down when he starts ranting at him to demean his position, but otherwise he’s invisible.I honestly believe this wasn’t just a debating strategy. I believe McCain has contempt for Obama on a very VERY base level.

From TPM, an explanation???Pelosi said Obama would speak for the Democrats. Though later he would pepper Paulson with questions, according to a Republican in the room, his initial point was brief: “We’ve got to get something done.”Bush turned to McCain, who joked, “The longer I am around here, the more I respect seniority.” McCain then turned to Boehner and Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) to speak first.Boehner was blunt. The plan Paulson laid out would not win the support of the vast majority of House Republicans. It had been improved on the edges, with an oversight board and caps on the compensation of participating executives. But it had to be changed at the core. He did not mention the insurance alternative, but Democrats did. Rep. Barney Frank (D-Mass.), chairman of the House Financial Services Committee, pressed Boehner hard, asking him if he really intended to scrap the deal and start again. No, Boehner replied, he just wanted his members to have a voice. Obama then jumped in to turn the question on his rival: “What do you think of the [insurance] plan, John?” he asked repeatedly. McCain did not answer. One Republican in the room said it was clear that the Democrats came into the meeting with a “game plan” aimed at forcing McCain to choose between the administration and House Republicans. “They had taken McCain’s request for a meeting and trumped it,” said this source.Congressional aides from both parties were standing in the lobby of the West Wing, unaware of the discord inside the Cabinet room, when McCain emerged alone, shook the hands of the Marines at the door and left. The aides were baffled. The plan had been for a bipartisan appearance before the media, featuring McCain, Obama and at least a firm statement in favor of intervention. Now, one of the leading men was gone.

Happy Dance!! FiveThirtyEight shows Obama cracking 75% on it’s win percentage tracker. It’s almost up to 80%, and the polls used to calc the number were BEFORE the debate.I’ll get my head out of the clouds tomorrow, but today I want to just let the feeling of hopey changey possibilities wash over me.http://www.fivethirtyeight.com/2008/09/todays-polls-927.html

No doubt, if past is prologue, the McCain camp will ramp up the stunts and there will be plenty of October surprises–Expect Rev. Wright on a loop, Bin Laden videos–and some big fat LIES and DISTRACTIONS. They will scratch and claw and kick and scream to stay in power and to keep Bush’s Burka of fear and lies fully over the American soul.

According to the article that KansasDem linked, McCain was in Washington on Sat. So how come he missed 2 votes on the spending bill to fund the gov’t for the next 5 months? He missed his big chance to speak out about the 2200 earmarks the bill contains…http://voices.washingtonpost.com/the-trail/2008/09/27/mccain_skips_vote_on_spending.html

KansasDem – October Surprise? How about being a witness to the exploitation of two teenagers about to truly fuck up their lives for the sake of an old man’s and one dipshit woman’s political ambitions?http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/world/us_and_americas/us_elections/article4837644.eceMcCain camp prays for Palin weddingThe marriage of the vice-presidential candidate’s pregnant teenage daughter could lift a flagging campaign

ceu – This quote from that story you linked to made me want to puke..“It would be fantastic,” said a McCain insider. “You would have every TV camera there. The entire country would be watching. It would shut down the race for a week.”What a serious campaign.

  • ceu

Seriously, dreamy. We’re supposed to honor the candidates’ families’ privacy but an invasion of the press into this wedding would be “fantastic”.How does anyone who uses teenagers like this sleep at night?

  • http://livefreeordie08.wordpress.com LiveFreeOrDie08

“It would be fantastic,” …” It would shut down the race for a week.”Here is an open admission to the “run out the clock” strategy being employed by the McCain scum.Obama should raise a major issue every day and keep a tally for the number of days it takes McCain to respond. Call him out and keep the campaign focused on issues.

“Obama should raise a major issue every day and keep a tally for the number of days it takes McCain to respond. Call him out and keep the campaign focused on issues.”That’s a really great idea, LFoD.
