She Wanted to Ban Books? Seriously?

If this is true, it’s more than a little frightening. TIME Magazine:

Stein says that as mayor, Palin continued to inject religious beliefs into her policy at times. “She asked the library how she could go about banning books,” he says, because some voters thought they had inappropriate language in them. “The librarian was aghast.” The librarian, Mary Ellen Baker, couldn’t be reached for comment, but news reports from the time show that Palin had threatened to fire her for not giving “full support” to the mayor.

There are quite a few accusations flying around out there at this point, and I seriously hope there are reputable sources behind them. John Stein, who is quoted above, was Palin’s predecessor in the Wasilla mayor’s office and was subsequently defeated by her, so there could be a grudge behind the story. However, if all of these stories check out, we should be very worried about a McCain-Palin administration.

Jesus, Mary and Joseph…I would like to be a fly on the wall of Karl Rove’s office today. Is this all part of an evil master plan, or is just the biggest train wreck in modern political history?

Not sure it’s just a grudge. I read the same basic thing elsewhere – I think it was in one of the “she was almost recalled” stories. She fired two other people while in the mayor’s office for not fully supporting her as mayor, but she claimed she had the right to hire & fire at will for any reason and pointed to a clause in the city charter (or whatever it’s called in Wasilla) to back up her claim. She fits right in with BushCo, eh? Scary that some people seem to think that she’s just dandy as a candidate.

“As Mayor of Wasilla I fought corruption by firing everyone who disagreed with me for being corrupt. I will continue to do the same in Washington, DC! Now that’s what I call freedom!” — Sarah PalinSeriously, though, what if a three year old wandered into that library, sat down and started reading Huck Finn? I mean, my God.

Well, if someone really wants to contact the librarian to try and get a comment or verification, she now works at the Fairbanks North Star Borough public library. It’s officially known as the Noel Wein Library. She’s the Public Services Manager. Here’s the contact information:Mary Ellen BakerPublic Services ManagerTelephone: (907) 459-1045Email: mary.ellen@taos.fnsb.lib.ak.usBy the way: It took me all of about 3 minutes to find this. Why can’t TIME do the same?

Is this chick the reincarnation of Joe McCarthy or something? A refugee from the Branch Davidian? What the hell century is she from, anyway? Save babies/kill soldiers? A total dipshit.
