What Is Wrong With Sarah Palin?

Posted by JumpyPants

Seriously. What is wrong with her? Mentally, I mean, not ideologically.

While we need to figure out how close John McCain is to senile dementia and/or cancer and/or heart failure and/or PTSD, I think we need to take a look at Palin’s medical records as well. Because just watching that Couric interview, I cannot help but think she is developmentally disabled.

We know she needed five tries to get a college degree. Five.

Watch her struggle to form sentences. Watch her talk at the level of a four-year old. Watch the McCain flacks shield her in terror from any uncontrolled questioning. Folks, this is not normal. This is beyond W/Quayle-level of gaffes.

Seriously, is Sarah Palin mildly retarded?

[BOB ADDS: She's not mentally challenged. She's just way out of her depth.]

I’ve been watching clips all day–As Stephanie Miller says, you almost need a UN Headset to have any clue as to what she is saying–unreal. This is really scary–I can’t believe John McCain would stoop this low–as horribly as he has behaved (lies, distractions, etc)–this is by far the most glaring example of his lack of judgment. It really is jaw dropping–thius deciosn alone proves he is unfit to lead.

I didn’t know “maverick” meant crazy.

I’m not one to come to Sarah’s defense ever, and I don’t usually get super sensitive over words, but since she has a baby with downs syndrome…you might want to reword this.

  • ConstanceRifle

Idream, agreed. I disagree with questioning her mental capabilities anyway…She’s functional, just not coherent. OTOH, I want Biden at the debates, after her random “reducing taxes…has got to accompany tax reductions” lines, to do a double take, with a big “WHHHUUUUUUUUUUUUU????!?!?!?” a la Chris Griffin.

I would love it if someone would have the nuts to ask this:”Recent polls have shown a fifth of Americans can’t locate the U.S. on a world map. Why do you think this is?”(same question as was asked of Miss South Carolina. My guess is we’d hear the same response)http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qQdhMSEqhfg

btw, great article about the interview:http://www.washingtonmonthly.com/archives/individual/2008_09/014881.phpMy fav. line

Worse, if you watch the clip, you might notice that Palin was intermittently referring to notes. In other words, this is the kind of response she offers on a question about the Wall Street bailout with help.

  • crystalclear

Maybe her head is so crowded with names on her “enemies” list that she is unable to form a single coherent thought. I mean, it’s like someone’s knocking on the door and no one’s answering. I don’t think that she’s disabled but there is a lack of basic cultural literacy that scares the hell out of me.

At least Rudy G. was linguistically competent enough of preface 9/11 with a noun & a verb … Sarah P. doesn’t seem to be regurgitating talking *points* so much as simply spewing previously rehearsed buzzwords. “Never again.” “Maverick.” “Tax cuts.”But let’s be clear — this isn’t a matter of disability. It’s the simple confluence of arrogance and indifference. She doesn’t need to be bothered with giving “correct” answers like some pointy-headed liberal elitist — she knows that Jesus wants her to lead this nation, and that’s all that matters.

not so much “retarded” as “completely and utterly out of her depth”.

  • recruitgal

I agree with Chantoozle, Contstance and Idream. She’s no good at articulating her positions (all of which I believe are fundamentally wrong.)But to suggest she might be “slightly retarded” is uncalled for.

  • Leeman67

Hugh is 100% correct. She’s the female version of Dubya. She’s not retarded, and she’s not even just stupid. She’s ignorant. And worse, she is WILLFULLY ignorant. And because she’s been put into this position as a VP candidate, she has to try to sound intelligent about issues she knows absolutely NOTHING about. That’s not easy to do for anyone. And just like anyone, she comes off sounding like an incoherent fool. I would feel sorry for her, except that it was her decision to actually accept McCain’s invitation to be his running mate, and not realize it would be WAY too much for her to handle. If they get elected (and I’m still not convinced they won’t – sorry, I just don’t trust the American people’s judgement or the GOP’s ability to play fair), we are royally fucked. And that’s not just hyperbole. We’re talking about a complete collapse akin to what the Soviet Union went through.

  • midad

Agree 100% Hugh. Arrogance, indifference and Jesus.

With all respect, comparing the Lying Nun to retarded people is unfair – to the retarded community.I’ve known many slow/simple/special people over the years, and one glaring difference between them and St. Sarah is that THEY DON’T WILLINGLY LIE. This woman has a mental illness alright, it’s called blind ambition.I don’t mind saying that her career has been based on her breasts vs. her brains, and now she’s risen to a level where being “cute” and “spunky” doesn’t get you through the audition. And I for one agree with her soon-to-be stated position that it’s shameful that not all US Americans have maps, and such as, Iraq and Education.

As a woman, the interview with Couric was disappointing it watch. But, did you notice how perfectly her lipstick matched her jacket. That’s magical.

  • Leeman67

the thing that gets me too, is that she has this arrogance about her. Just reading the transcript doesn’t do it justice. Watch her mannerisms and how she says what she says. On her defense of her foreign policy “experience” she is essentually rolling her eyes at Couric as if to say, “what are you stupid? OF COURSE my state’s geographical proximity to Russia/Canada proves I’m a foreign policy expert. Silly reporter.” But again, when it’s all said and done, we’ll wake up in a few days and, somehow, the polls will still be “close.”

  • WalkThisJai

As a woman, the interview with Couric was disappointing to watch. I literally could not understand one iota of her responses. ‘Good guys and bad guys’ ‘democratic values’ ‘ISLAMIC terrorists’ ‘freedom’But, did you notice how perfectly her lipstick matched her jacket? Now THAT’s magical.

In watching the film clip of her interview with Couric (the one posted above), it seemed to me that she was trying to pivot and make the (awkward) case that bailing out Wall Street would help the economy, jobs, etc. Not effective of course, not only because it’s not a good argument, but she is inept at this type of thing.Basically, all this proves that she is not competent to be on the national stage. She is not culturally intelligent, she has no broad base of knowledge, and despite her much touted “experience” …she does not have the intellectual sophistication needed to be in the executive branch. Period.

  • kansasdem

I think we all better lighten up!She’ll put the anti-witch boogie woogie on us!

  • Leeman67

Ok, I just watched the complete foreign policy segment of the interview at CBSNEws.com. She’s a lunatic. For one thing, she has the utter NERVE to call Obama “naive” for saying he would sit down and talk to Iran and Syria (she actually said he would “negotiate” with them, which is a lie because he never used the word negotiate). For her to call ANYONE naive just screams of calling the kettle black. But aside from that, her incoherent blather finally devolves into her insisting that we should NEVER second guess Israel, because after they are the GOOD guys and Iran is the BAD guys. I mean, she seriously has a grade school view of the world. It’s frightening.

  • MisterX

It’s a mistake to see her as W or Quayle. The much more accurate analogy is Agnew. She can give a attack speech very well, so long as someone writes it, and there’s no follow-up. She’s also, like Agnew, profoundly ignorant, parochial, utterly uninterested in anything beyond her immediate surroundings. In short, she’s really, really scary, because if they’re actually elected, we get the people around her, with her as a mouthpiece. Can it get worse than that.

  • Groobiecat

My wife has a theory: Her speed-training for VP-ship has only partially “taken hold.” The bullet points she’s supposed to espouse get all curmuffled in the R. Goldberg synaptic train wreck that is her brain. You say potato, I say Potemkin. You say tomato, I say “Todd, he’s a hunk, eh?”
