Dead Weight

When some of my otherwise smart friends were freaking out in the days and week after Sarah Palin’s acceptance speech at the RNC, I enjoined them to calm down, that not only was Senator Obama the smartest, most humanist person to run for president in living memory, but that Mrs. Palin’s popularity would fall faster than Lindsay Lohan’s.

And as much as it pains me to say this, I was right. From the NBC/WSJ poll, via TPM and AmericaBlog:

Now, Palin’s qualifications to be president rank as voters’ top concern about McCain’s candidacy — ahead of continuing President Bush’s policies, enacting economic policies that only benefit the rich and keeping too high of a troop presence in Iraq.

one other thing–the Palin factor–as dubbed by the BBQ pit–coincided with the post convention bounce for McCain–There is no doubt she generated interest, but I am sure Carrot Top would have as well–she has no future–if she has any sights on running in 2012, her competition in the party will destroy her, if the media does not–There is so much there, there that the media has not covered. The red herring about the Gibson and Couric interviews is that they were “tough”–they were soft balls that didn’t even ask her about the many questions in her record.

This whole episode reminds me of watching a rookie QB be dropped into a game as some sort of “secret strategy”, only to then watch the QB run from sideline to sideline, losing yardage all the while. Exciting, surely…effective, rarely. Palin has now lost significant yardage for Team McCain and has thrown 2 failed hail mary’s thus far…it’s 4th and long. Let’s keep the pressure on.

funny you should mention the RNC. That Non-elitist, Joe the plumber, I’m just like you bitches spent $150,000 – eight G’s just on hair and makeup to tart herself up for the RNC.http://washingtonindependent.com/14106/politico-rnc-spent-150k-on-palin-wardrobe

I agree with you LiveFreeORDie08, Keep the pressure on. We’re playing for keeps.

Who would like to put money on the fact that Brian Williams does not ask about this:http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20081022/ap_on_el_pr/palin_family_travel

Bob, this comment has absolutely nothing to do with this thread, but as I got to the last comment (from JG, I noticed, in the right margin, an ad for “protectmarriage.com.” They are the right-wing assholes who are pushing for the passage of proposition 8 in California, which would overturn the rights of people to be married if they are not a combination of one man and one woman. Do you pick and approve who gets to advertise on your site? If so, how can you possibly justify allowing such a group to put up a banner here?If you approved this ad’s presence on your site, I can’t even express how disappointed I am in you.

c’mon baja, do you really think Bob is picking these ads? It says “Ads by Google” on the block.Prop 8 is an asinine attempt to impose church doctrine as state law. If the Prop 8′ers wanna blow their money advertising to support this website, I say we give them more space to defray the costs for Bob to keep the Awesome Blog going. At least then some good will come from their misguided crusade.

Now I feel left out – I’m not getting a defense of marriage ad. I got Six Flags New England… :( I’m with you, Jumpy. Right after she was nominated, I wrote a long rant (to myself) about the GOP turning the election into a joke by nominating Palin. I have no qualms about feeling like screaming “I told you so!” to the whole lot of them!

*blissfully using Firefox/Adblock and seeing nothing (sorry Bob)*Avi I have a feeling the language barrier has been breached by most who have found it this far. The violent medical imagery, however, is disturbing. Especially the staff-o-caucus imbecilus virus–nasty stuff. No vaccine. And thank you for pointing out the stupidity of this revelation of the whopping clothing allowance (who’d know?) for Governor Walmart and in your own special way. Good post.

@LFOD: If you check the geography of the situation, Bob lives in PA, and Prop 8 is on the ballot in CA. They’re pretty far apart. I was actually going on the assumption that he was unaware just what Prop 8 entails. As I said in response to his later post, I’m sorry if my language was harsh, but it’s a subject that strikes home with me, given the demographics of my family. If you notice, I’m still avidly reading the blog, and have in no way suggested The awesome Mr Cesca is anything other than a progressive iconoclast.

Do you think getting surgery is smart right now? Should I be saving instead?

I have to disagree with that last comment…doesn’t make sense
