Drudge’s ‘Stolen Election’ Narrative?

Drudge is screaming about a new and insanely wacky Zogby poll — again — showing McCain inexplicably leading 48-47. Don’t panic! It’s a ridiculously far-fetched outlier. Nate Silver debunks it here.

But I’ve been trying to figure out Drudge’s fake “tightening race” narrative which, by the way, was totally shot to hell Thursday and Friday with most of the major pollsters showing Senator Obama extending his lead. I mean, seriously. One word: Arizona.

Anyway, my latest theory is that Drudge is the skirmisher for a potential “stolen election” or “illegitimate presidency” theme should Senator Obama win this thing. In other words, if Senator Obama wins, they could claim that his victory margin wasn’t reflected in the polls most favored by the Republicans and Fedorons.

Therefore, ACORN and the commie pinko terrorist baby killers had to have stolen the election somehow — held it down and carved a “B” in its cheek.

Further to the theory of fomenting a new THEM, witness MSNBC’s hit job on “closed minded Lefties”http://livefreeordie08.wordpress.com/I’m sooooo pissed about this.Fyi, I pulled my link from HuffPo, but my blog will get you there, and you get to hear me rant as a bonus!

I’ve been thinking a lot about them setting us up for some sort of election day stunt, but I’m pretty sure it’s just us getting worried for nothing. Now, I’m not taking anything for granted, but hear me out:It’s funny to me that Rick Davis is talking about closing poll numbers to the media, and pushing a close race narrative when they know that the closer the race seems, the worse off they are. Think about it. If it looks like an absolute blowout, who’s more likely to not vote? Obama supporters. Also, the pointing of fingers already is amazing to me. You’re not doing that if you really think the race is close. You only do that if you’re looking for a way out and something or someone to blame when it’s all over. To me, none of this adds up to them actually thinking they can win.

It’s because they’re in denial. Look at the headlines on the top of the page. They just reek of denial.Someone needs to tell Drudge that none of those national polls count, it’s all about the electoral college. And even the most conservative of them (CNN) says he will win.It will be interesting to see what John Zogby says on his daily appearance on CSPAN this morning. I’m sure he has a rational explanation for it.I still think Obama needs a landslide to dispel the crazy accusations of fraud. But he just might get it.

In light of the results of the 2000, 2004, and too a lesser extent the 2002 elections, AND the actionable denial on the part of the Democrats of fraudulent count in those three instances, the Republicans are setting up the usual win if we lose, win if we win scenario. This election could make at least four times, with who knows what to come in a rapidly darkening future. It is certainly a wonderful thing, filled with great promise and hope, that the American people find themselves in such huge numbers ready for the refreshment and renewal of the nation led by Barack Obama. After all, most of America has been denied the leadership that they clearly chose for eight long and damaging years. Unfortunately, the fraud-wracked system that has denied the people’s franchise to now has not been in anywise repaired, and evidence points to an even deeper compromise in the present. If one may, then one should vote. But the casting is not the count, and therein lies the upset of the scales of justice and democracy. In eight years we have not made whole that which was broken for the benefit of the ill-willed. Do not then be distressed if the headlines on Wednesday morning next trumpet the “McCain-Palin Miracle”.

This reminds me of the part in Recount when Ben Ginsberg played by Bob Balaban says something to the effect of (paraphrasing), “We’re not going to let the Democrats steal this election” and “It shows you the depths of how low these thieving Democrats will go to steal another election.”

Democrats stealing an election from Republicans?! What the fuck?! What country have these wingnuts been living in the last eight years?

But I believe you’re absolutely right, Bob. They’re setting up the scenario to say we “stole” it if we win it, and if they steal it, they’ll point to Zogby as proof and say that alt the other polls were wrong.

Let ‘em think it. We had 8 years of knowing it. I can’t use the banned word but if that happens they won’t have a leg to stand on. And if it’s close–but Obama wins–fuck ‘em. Then let all sides work to fix the broken shit in the system.

  • Teaflax

I’m cynical enough to reiterate what I’ve been saying all along; it’s preparing the ground for them to steal the presidential election for the third time running. They need the narrative out there and some numbers – however skewed and fraudulent – to point to in order to explain McCain’s sudden surge to squeak out a win in the end. I see no reason to believe that they wouldn’t try it, and considering how broken the US voting process is, no reason they shouldn’t be able to pull it off.And it works – to this day, you’re considered a conspiracy nutcase when you question why Ohio suddenly and inexplicably swung for Bush four years ago.

I think Drudge is just desperate for traffic. His numbers have been dropping over the last 3 months. His headline is technically true (just as dog shit is technically edible), he knows pundits lie Buchannan will run with it, and it’ll bring him more page hits.

  • ceu

If they claim the Dems stole it, let them prove it. Seriously. Cooperate in every way possible in getting a recount done or investigate irregularities or anything else. Don’t call them whiners or sore losers [thinking it is perfectly ok :) ]. Let them have their recount & let it be done openly & honestly. Otherwise we are in for 4 years of Obama’s presidency being called illegitimate, 4 more years of a harsher politically divided electorate and country. That is not something that will advance the agenda put forth by Obama and the Democrats – if we want to get things done – changed – then the election has to be put behind us without lingering questions.

  • cynicalgirl

Um, Drudge still has that same headline up, but the link says Obama is ahead by 5. Oh, the irony!

  • Nanotyrannus

Well of course it will have to have been stolen. It can’t possibly be their fault.I’ve been thinking the past few weeks about how much this election shows the Bush/Cheney true colors. They are not true conservatives, they are opportunists looking out for only themselves. With merely a nod from W, Rove could have easily been dispatched with his army of dirty tricksters to wreak havoc. Bush and Cheney could have gotten the base fired up. They had no problem sending out executive branch drones to campaign for them last time, but very few have been on board for McCain. The Right will squeal about stolen elections, claim illegal campaign contributions (I heard on my Jay Marvin the other day a caller say that the majority of Barack Obama’s small contributions had come from “pre-paid debit cards”), and continue their laughable terrorist associatin’ bullshit for a while. I think, though, this administration is going to be different. It’s so hard for me to put it into words – all I can say is it’s going to be different from anything we’ve seen before. I think the angries on the Right are going to be silenced simply by the way this administration carries out it’s duties, by showing the American people, finally, this is how it’s supposed to work.I think we are going to witness a transformation of American politics that nobody thought was possible.
