Errrmm… Secret Service?

Hello? Homeland Security? Anybody?

A New Mexico gun shop owner says that he is “proud to offend” supporters of Barack Obama with its sign outside the store which reads “Pre-Osama bin Biden sale! Today, 7PM – MIDNITE.” [...]

“If this sign offended people, I am damn proud of it,” said shop owner Cope Reynolds in an interview with The Daily Times. Reynolds explained that “a lot of it is because of his Muslim upbringing.”

Why isn’t this man in custody? He’s offering his customers a discount as an incentive to shoot a United States Senator and candidate for president! I hate to sound hysterical here, but isn’t this a form of terrorism?

Put it this way… What if he was, say, a Syrian gun store owner?

I suppose he’ll say his sign means “better buy your guns while it’s still legal to own one.” But then, Obama/Biden have never advocated total gun control or anything close to it, so far as I know. In any case, unless he says outright that he really meant the worst, it’s probably not an actionable statement. Bottom line in my view: he ought to have known that his language is open to a certain interpretation that could have implications beyond the local gun-shop setting. His little sign, whatever he might mean by it, is inexcusable because it goes towards the establishment of a community of haters out of which violent acts may come. And it’s obvious, to judge from some of the trash-talk at the McCain-Palin rallies, that such a community does in fact exist.

Sick indeed and should be sorted pronto by the erstwhile ‘Homeland Security’. They gotta do something concrete for their pay and here is a nascient wingnut threat which cannot be allowed to stand…. but, hey, since it is only a good old boy, no worries, no problemo???People on the far side of the Atlantic express support for, but question our man’s very future. I slap down these concerns, but when I see this, I ain’t so very, very sure. When Salman Rushdie received death threats in the UK after ‘Satanic Verses’, the UK gov did nothing to those who lived here and issued these threats- albeit physically defending him from them. When anyone in France issued death threats, they were prosecuted immediately.

Hysteria is not an overreaction here. These people are inciting all grades of shit that wouldn’t be allowed upon oh, say, John McCain. This has to be criminal behavior under some law or another. Yet on and on it goes…

That’s right; there are legal repercussions. Threatening to kill the President, or any other public official, carries penalties in the US. Obama has an 85% likelihood of being the next President; yes, yes, these people, along with Steve “Bullet” (!) Schmidt, are putting public safety and the safety of Obama AND his supporters at risk. I feel like an alarmist, too, but allowing this stuff to go on unchecked is only going to end badly. The Secret Service and Attorney General NEED to step in and step UP. Write a letter to your Congressman: you’ll feel better!

Just one more reason I prefer the company of my dogs to so-called “humans”

That’s sickly funny though. I am actually planning to stock up on some ammo and get a new shotgun (along with more rationally piling up the fuel, food, and diapers I will use anyway) prior to the election.I imagine that if the election even looks slightly fixed and McCain wins, it is going to be a bad few days in most major cities. Not that I’d buy from an asshat like THAT guy, but I imagine roving hate mobs of angry Palinites or just angry Americans pissed that ANOTHER election was stolen from them is cause to beef up the home security.
