A new poll out in Minnesota has good news for the future President Obama in what is looking like a good shot at a senate seat pick-up, the good folks of Minnesota voting out a sleazy android and voting in a man named Al Franken.

The survey, conducted Tuesday through Thursday by Princeton Survey Research Associates International among 1,084 likely Minnesota voters, shows Franken leading Coleman 43 to 34 percent. Independence Party candidate Dean Barkley is supported by 18 percent of respondents.

Come on, Minnesota!

Amazing, eh? Dole is down by 2 pts in NC, Shaheen is beating the incumbent Sununu in NH by 5 pts, and Stevens is down by 4 in Alaska! All we need now is for McConnell and Chambliss (both up by 4) to sink and we’re at 61 in the Senate and we can boot Lieberman’s ass outta the caucus! (insert Howard Dean yell!)

I almost think Al Franken going to Congress is a bigger Fuck You to the Insane Far-Right than Barack Obama going to the White House. Wingnut hatred for Franken is stunning to witness. The mere mention of his name is enough to send members of my family into apoplexy. When arguing the relative merits of a book by Ann Coulter (one of Dad’s favorites) and a competing title by Al Franken (whom I had just seen at a Borders in Arlington, VA), my father exploded at me, shouting the word “research!” as Ms. Coulter’s bona fide against Franken’s tomfoolery. As my father has access to Lexis Nexis, I challenged him to a Fact-Off; I’d donate $100 to his charity of choice per factual error in Franken’s book that wasn’t offset by one in Coulter’s, and vice-versa.He declined in a bit of a snit.Al Franken is a genius. He knows politics, he knows his facts, he is capable and patriotic. He belongs in Congress. I wish I could vote for him.

Im a huge Al Franken Fan. Hes brilliant and has a laid back ease about him that makes him accessible. I can’t wait to see him in Washington, he has the potential to do great things. Oh and hes god damned funny too.
