Tonight! The Senate votes on the bailout bill. There’s also a big debate tomorrow involving Joe Biden and someone named Joe Six-pack. Also, did you ever notice that McCain’s fingers are shaped like little traffic cones?

More jibberish with Couric just aired. I’m betting less than 24 hours before the McCain campaign comes out with a “clarification” of Palin’s agreement that there is a constitutional right to privacy.Comedy gold. I’ll almost miss her.

  • JG

watch the Tweety repeat–rife with BBQ sauce. In a few minutes you’ll see Chick Todd say “no one though Mccain lost the debate…” Huh? Chuck have you seen the debate polls–Also, watch for the dismissal of the polls out today–

  • idreamofskiba

Amy Klobuchar is pissed off and pretty awesome for saying so.

  • trustno1

No – more – Couric – interview.*gasp*It’s killing me. Just killing me.

  • amaraya

Why is Chris Matthews assuming she reads the local paper? If she did, she would have said that. Let’s be real here – she doesn’t read any newspapers. It’s the only logical explanation

  • jane

Yay! Another evening of Bob Cesca’s Goddamn Awesome Blog and Group Therapy! Go!

  • NotAPollStat

Don’t you find it amazing that Palin just “coined the phrase” “Joe Six-Pack” yesterday on Hewitt’s ultra-right wing-conservation radio show, but now the BBQ media and punditry are using “Joe Six-Pack” to replace their former “white working class” label? (And this same media scoffed when Scott McClellan said that the White House was releasing Talking Points Memos for the media….)

Happy Dance!http://www.fivethirtyeight.com/search/label/today%27s%20pollsI was SO excited to see him crack 60% in the scenario calculator….he’s at flippin’ 85%!!!!

  • idreamofskiba

I like how when Obama is ahead in the polls, they just don’t believe it.

  • jane

I think McCain would be great at narrating touchy-feely Hallmark Christmas movies.

  • http://thepoliticalcarnival.blogspot.com/ Paddy

I’ve got the vids from tonight’s Couric mauling over at my place. Brutal.http://thepoliticalcarnival.blogspot.com/2008/10/biden-vs-palin-on-separation-of-church.html

  • nriordan1

Lynn Sweet on Hardball saying she has sympathy for Sarah Palin not being able to name one Supreme Court case other than Roe v Wade. How is that acceptable? We already know that Palin is ignorant to the majority of America’s important modern problems. But anyone who thinks they deserve to serve this country in any office should have sufficient knowledge of the history. It’s pathetic, and somebody needs to call her out on it.

  • ceu

Anyone know what time the Senate vote is scheduled for?

  • http://livefreeordie08.wordpress.com LiveFreeOrDie08

Oh, gawd! She is predictably pathethic, but where’s the shock collar for JOE!!??!!??I pray to god they are cattle prodding him in debat prep. He HAS TO BE limited to 10 word sentences. Joe, you don’t have to say ANYTHING, so STFU B4 U blow this via self-inflicted wound!!! AAAARRRGGHH!!

  • http://www.broadwaycarl.blogspot.com Broadway Carl

I think McCain would be great at narrating touchy-feely Hallmark Christmas movies.

Look, my friends, Santa Claus is coming to town with victory in his magic bag of toys. He knows how to deliver because he has experience delivering. Some may say that Kwaanza is the giving season, but they just don’t understand and are too naive.

  • Gretchen

I noticed….he’s got chubby, stubby, weird shaped fingers.

  • J M Ashby

Jane – McCain narrating Christmas Movies? He would get angry and refer to Mrs.Clause as a cunt.

  • Groobiecat

Physical characteristics really should be out of bounds, folks.Really.But, um, since you brought it up:1) chubby/stubby digits: those are his “freeeenz”2) arms: t-rex appendages3) upper lip: immobile johnny quest animation mandible.

  • J M Ashby

McCain aspires to be a dictator. Straight from his mouth.

  • J M Ashby

McCain has a record of 100% truth lmao

  • PackyJ

Gawd.I just watched the Supreme Court question and the separation of church and state question.Biden answered them both very well, sounding both smart and wise.Sarah Palin made me cringe.I’m sorry, people.Even though she never got MY vote, I’m truly sorry and mortified that we Alaskans had any hand at all in foisting this embarrassment upon America.I feel like I woke up in the middle of a Kurt Vonnegut novel.I just want this to end.My head hurts.

  • idreamofskiba

    McCain scares me. Seriously.

  • jane

Packy, I can understand, having grown up in the land of Jessie Helms.

  • jane

Though in fairness, noone ever called Jessie Helms “hottt”

  • jane

    Fuck “Chucking” Todd.

  • J M Ashby

I was always embarassed because McConnell is from my state, but thats nothing compared to Palin. The opponent running against McConnell has been running a commercial on local news channels referring to him as “McCon-job”Its a hoot.

  • dontpanic23

My brain is bleeding (I just saw Palin on the Supreme Court decisions and such as). Help me.I’m now afraid to look for the church and state one. I really fear a stroke or something if I see them both in one night.I think I just saw the words Jesse and Helms. I’m in pain, people! Stop that!Back to KO…and my cave. This is dangerous.

  • jane

Who’s got money on “updo” tomorrow night?

  • J M Ashby

Keith just eviscerated the whole Ifill book surprise BS from the McCain camp.

  • http://www.broadwaycarl.blogspot.com Broadway Carl

KO on fire about the Ifill book faux freakout. I was saying that exact thing to friends of mine but didn’t blog about it figuring everyone else would. These people are complete idiots.

  • cynicalgirl

Frank Luntz on O’Reilly complaining about Whoppi Goldberg and The View. Ho hum.

  • ceu

At least the church & state one is short, Dontpanic.Packy – I come from the land of Lieberman. We all have our crosses…

  • J M Ashby

rofl @ “Smoking Gun of Stupidity”

  • http://www.broadwaycarl.blogspot.com Broadway Carl

LOL! KO calls her deer in the headlights moment “A smoking gun of stupidity!”

  • dontpanic23

@ ceuArrrrgh went back to KO and there it is again. I may wake up dead tomorrow.

  • J M Ashby

Holy shit that couric clip is horrific. Shes would be in a position to change the outcome of cases of which she cannot name any. haha

  • dontpanic23

She makes the Joe Sixpack remark sound like she’s an Affirmative Action pick for the stupid.

  • http://livefreeordie08.wordpress.com LiveFreeOrDie08

Can you even imagine the ridiculing her kids, Coffee Mug, Large Fries and Dryer Lint must be taking at school? We really should draft those kids into some sort of witness protection program and give them a fighting chance at a normal life when this is all overwith.

  • jane

I’m trying to raise the level of discourse, here, people! What about tattooed lipliner???

  • J M Ashby

Everytime I see a Couric-Palin clip I am reminded of that beauty queen saying “I believe US americans dont have maps”

  • dontpanic23

Jane! Stroke here! I think I just pissed my pants.

  • PackyJ

Ok.As an Alaskan, I’m again mortified that Ms. “Moose in the Headlights Joe Six-Pack” couldn’t even come up with Exxon Shipping Co. v. Baker… the outcome of which she did a fucking SOUND BITE about back in the old days… JUNE 25 OF 2000 AND FUCKING 08!Thinking Alaskans will be apologizing for this travesty for a long time.

  • http://livefreeordie08.wordpress.com LiveFreeOrDie08

That analogy is no longer fair to Miss North Carolina. At least she admitted to the stupid.

  • http://www.broadwaycarl.blogspot.com Broadway Carl

Uh, oh. KO is about to show a “Best of” Palin blooper reel, lest we forget everything stupid she’s said after tomorrow’s impending debacle.

  • J M Ashby

PackyJ – This is a prime example of what happens when people who pay absolutely no attention to anything other than themself go out and vote. You got Palin. The nation got 2 terms of Bush.

  • dontpanic23

Packy, she’s evidently on auto-pilot of rote speech and has no real thoughts (as evidenced by above-referenced children, Dr. Pepper, Sprite and Diet Cheerwine). And don’t feel bad. I’m one of those who has to lay claim (innocently) to Helms. *pain*

  • jane

Oh oh…Keith’s got his Tammany Hall Mob Boss suit on tonight. (Really, who let him buy that?)

  • PackyJ

Oops. so pissed off that I forgot the news soundbite: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5H-26MOxH34

  • jane

    DP! NC? What exit?

  • http://livefreeordie08.wordpress.com LiveFreeOrDie08

But, as I said the other night, I would LOVE it if someone had the guts to ask the same question to Palin that was asked of Miss North Carolina. I’m sure we’d get a nearly identical response.Which actually would be good, because that would free me up to launch a Draft Miss North Carolina for VP effort. I mean, if we gotta have one of ‘em in the White House, who would you pick??

  • http://www.broadwaycarl.blogspot.com Broadway Carl

I like that suit, Jane. He wears it every time he’s going to do a hit job on a deserving member of the GOP. His fedora is hanging on the hat rack off camera.

  • dontpanic23

LiveFree that was Miss SOUTH Carolina. We have enough baggage with Helms. Don’t hang that on us too!

  • J M Ashby

    I want a fedora

  • dontpanic23

Oh, DP and NC–gotcha. US 52 North. Just shy of VA.

  • http://livefreeordie08.wordpress.com LiveFreeOrDie08

Ha! Apologies to the North, condolences to the South

  • J M Ashby

The river of words palin has already navigated hehehe…

  • J M Ashby

The only thing missing from this reel is the sitcom style laughter after every pause.

  • dontpanic23

If only Bob did sound on us…

  • J M Ashby

Hah, flirting with Palin earned Zardari a fatwa? http://www.csmonitor.com/2008/1002/p04s01-wosc.htmlApparently, he embarassed Pakistan by calling her gorgeous.

  • idreamofskiba

I don’t know, Jane, I think she might wear her hair down tomorrow to hide the ear piece.

  • idreamofskiba

She says as many words as possible without saying much of anything.

  • jane

So the Fed Reserve just injected $600 billion into the global market, congress (senate?) just approved a $600 billion appropriations bill, and I could swear there was yet another $600 billion spent elsewhere. What’s another $600 billion between corrupt departments?

  • jane

I think updo: She could hide an entire speechwriter up there. (Is Frum busy? Oh yeah, he jumped ship too.)

  • KatinWilm

Someone please make the Couric interview go away…it hurts….it hurts….I’m going with an updo, Jane. Ya know…the “power ‘do.” We need to figure out the drinking game for the debate too. Multiple shots for “thanks but no thanks?”

  • jane

McCain knows the challenges of space!

  • PackyJ

jane:$600 billion here, $600 billion there, pretty soon you’re talking real money!(Apologies to the late Everett Dirksen, if he ever actually said something similar.)

  • dontpanic23

I’m drinking tomorrow. I’ll have to to live through it. If she clucks her tongue I’ll probably poke my eyes out but that could be a drinking “word”. (cluck, not eye poke)

  • KatinWilm

Skiba…I agree. It’s actually sort of impressive to use that many words and say jack-shit.

  • jane

Kat: we have to drink a six-pack for every “Joe six-pack” reference, of course. (Secret Repub plan to win election: us liberal drinkers will die of alcohol poisoning tomorrow night!)

  • Alan4s

Drinkin’ game suggestion:Every time Ms. Palin drops the endin’ “g” from words that should have it. Givin’ her that homey tone, doncha’ know.

  • idreamofskiba

    This might be fun.http://palinbingo.com/

  • dontpanic23

Did they assign Biden Underoos? Or will my Obama ones work tomorrow?

  • J M Ashby

Jane – Actually the “bailout/rescue bill” was upped to somewhere around 850 billion because of all the BS they added to it to get the Repiglicans to vote for it.

  • jane

If we make “ya know” a drinking word we can cede the election NOW. (For above stated reason.)

  • dontpanic23

    Bingo! Perfect.

  • KatinWilm

Oh, God, Rachel is killing me tonight!! Palin playing the flute? No wonder she passed the vetting/blowjob test so well…she’s been practicing for years.

  • http://livefreeordie08.wordpress.com LiveFreeOrDie08

“…if I am so blessed” has got to score high in this game, like say you have to keep drinking until she says “foundation” or “this great country”

  • dontpanic23

A stage blow job with her own mangled sentences transcribed below. *pain*

  • KatinWilm

The Palin bingo is perfect and easily adaptable to massive quantities of alcohol (since I’m gonna need it)! I don’t think I could handle “ya know,” though, Jane. I’m not in my college-age fighting form anymore and I do have to go to work on Friday.

  • J M Ashby

That flute video with lyrics was pretty ammusing. I told ya last week her whole career and current position was likely due to her blowing skills.

  • jane

Skiba, was there ever a candidate so perfectly matched to bingo? I am confident that every card will win, probably before the debate is half over.

  • KatinWilm

Excellent idea, LFOD, but we need to be careful. The way that woman can ramble on and use insane quantities of extraneous words, we may all pass out on our keyboards before we get to “this great country.”

  • PackyJ

Re: Sarah’s flautist abilities:Well, ya know, oral sex doesn’t count in an “abstinence only” sex ed program.

  • KatinWilm

Apparently Bristol never learned how to play the flute.

  • jane

I’m takin’ up a collection of “g”s to send to the McCain Palin campain office (just trying not to be wasteful there!). Who’s donatin’?

  • jane

    Oops, wasted one.

  • idreamofskiba

What’s everyone drinkin’ tomorrow evenin’?And you’re probably right, Jane. I bet they even all win in a blackout.

  • J M Ashby

I’ll be drinking Rum mixed with whatever I have on hand. Probably orange juice and cranberry juice.

  • jane

Skiba, my plan for tomorrow is to drink vodka, but after the trainwreck starts I may switch to antifreeze.I haven’t decided yet.

  • KatinWilm

I’m usually a wine drinker, but tomorrow night might call for some stronger stuff. I’ll probably swing by the ABC store tomorrow (don’t you just love NC) and pick up some Absolut. Besides, you can’t have a proper drinking game doing shots of merlot.

  • idreamofskiba

“Apparently Bristol never learned how to play the flute.”Quote of the day.

  • jane

The only time I feel really Southern is listening to Keith O speedtalk.

  • Alan4s

I’ll be drinkin’ Jim Beam Black with water.I’m watching all the senators patting themselves on their own backs for passing the bill tonight. Funny though, each and everyone of them is saying, “I really didn’t want to vote for this bill, but something needed to be done.” Well, then why didn’t you propose something you really DID want to vote for?I’m not really comforted much by this right now.

  • jane

Stupid is not offensive to me. What’s offensive is the condescending, sarcastic coverup that follows the stupid.

  • KatinWilm

The comments from the senators sound like Oscar acceptance speeches. “I’d like to thank God, my parents, my woonnddderful castmates…”

  • cminri

Its not all about us…its all about THEM!

  • jane

Kat, thank FSM we have an alternative to Dole this year! Whatsisname is next!

  • http://www.broadwaycarl.blogspot.com Broadway Carl

Stupid is not offensive to me.

You’re a better person than I, Jane. I have no patience for stupid.

  • idreamofskiba

Yeah, Carl, I don’t have much patience for stupid, either. Not that I’m super smart or anything, because I’m definitely not.

  • ceu

Whenever anyone says “you can look it up”, they’re making shit up and counting on the rest of us being too lazy to look it up. And whenever they say they’ve “always been 100% truthful, they’re downright daring us to look it up.Christ, what an asshole.

  • cminri

I agree with you Carl. After all its STUPID people that got us in this mess to begin with. (BTW – are we all still carpooling to DC on inauguration day??!?!)

  • jane

Stupid is irritating, but offensive? Inherently? Organically? No. And I’m not a gooder person than anybody.

  • jane

CM- I think there are carpools if Obama wins but if McCain (R, AZ) wins everyone is mandated to drive solo in a Ford Expedition.

  • jane

Carl- to be more explicit: Stupid doesn’t win elections, it’s the manipulation of stupid that wins.

  • cminri

If McCain wins we can all drive to DC and throw ourselves into the reflecting pool en masse…

  • cminri

Do stupid people know they are stupid?

  • http://www.broadwaycarl.blogspot.com Broadway Carl

@ CM – Carpooling! Absolutely. We’ll start making plans November 5th.

  • http://www.broadwaycarl.blogspot.com Broadway Carl

Jane, I was making a generalization on not being tolerant of stupid people. (It’s a fault of mine.) But sometimes, yes, they do offend me when they think they know what they’re talking about and don’t shut their pieholes but insist they do know. That is offensive to me.

And yes, CM, I think some stupid people don’t know they are stupid. At least they annoying ones I encounter.

  • jane

See, Carl, that’s my point. It’s not the stupid that’s offensive, it’s the cocksure and the stubborn that offends. We agree, methink.

  • idreamofskiba

Actually, it’s the people who take pride in being ignorant and have a complete lack of curiosity that bother me…the ones who want a regular “Joe six pack” instead of the best of the best… That’s the kind of stupid that pisses me off – not the people who just may not know. Because there’s a hell of a lot that I don’t know.

  • jane

See, Skiba, it’s the arrogance! Stupid by itself is really only pitiable, or at least annoying. Maybe dangerous. But offensive? No! It’s the combination. Like multiple felonies make for a harsher sentence.Palin et al are saying the media and the Left are attacking her for being (stupid, basically). We’re not: it’s her arrogance, overconfidence, cockiness that are offensive, scary, dangerous. It’s McCain’s recklessness that’s offensive.Stupid? Really, who cares (except her constituents like Packy)?

  • jane

It made sense when I thunk it.

  • idreamofskiba

You made sense to me, Jane.

  • ceu

Not me, Jane. I’m attacking her for being stupid (as well as arrogant, overconfident, and cocky) I cannot imagine, in this day & age, there is any excuse for people of supposedly normal intelligenct to be this stupid. Ignorant I can handle – that can be fixed; but stupid is complete incuriosity about the world. There is not forgiving someone for that.

  • solrac2002

    “Joe Six-Pack” – I just think of a 30ish white dude who drinks alot..lol..classic

  • ceu

okay – that was supposed to be intelligence, not intelligenct.

  • jane

“incurious” is definitely not a necessary component of “stupid” and vice versa, chris. I think we’re more in agreement than not here. And Skiba- WTF skiba? Matt Skiba? Gerhard Skiba? I will not sleep tonight. (Stupid but not incurious.)

  • jane

As Clinton would say, I guess it depends on what your definition of “stupid” is.

  • idreamofskiba

Matt Skiba. He’s my dream guy.Sometimes I act half my age.

  • jane

Gotcha. Thanks. (Although Gerhard sounds like a pretty happenin’ dude for an Austrian.)
