McCain Not Embarrassed to Know Liddy

On tonight’s Late Show:

“I know Gordon Liddy. He paid his debt, he went to prison … I’m not in any was embarrassed to know Gordon Liddy.”

He went to prison for Watergate, sure. But McCain has clearly forgotten about all of the other crazy. You mean, McCain doesn’t mind that stuff about Liddy describing on his radio show how to murder a federal agent? A federal agent! Or that crap about Liddy using a photo of Senator Clinton as a firing range target? McCain doesn’t seem to mind.

As far as I know, Mr. Liddy never spent any time in jail for those things.

And McCain? Not embarrassed. Not at all.

UPDATE: Liddy’s remarks about killing ATF agents:

“Now if the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms comes to disarm you and they are bearing arms, resist them with arms. Go for a head shot; they’re going to be wearing bulletproof vests.” … “They’ve got a big target on there, ATF. Don’t shoot at that, because they’ve got a vest on underneath that. Head shots, head shots. Kill the sons of bitches.” –August 26, 1994

And…

“If the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms insists upon a firefight, give them a firefight. Just remember, they’re wearing flak jackets and you’re better off shooting for the head.” –September 15, 1994

ADDING… The upshot is that if William Ayers is going to be an issue, so should Gordon Liddy. And as far as I’m concerned, Liddy is far, far worse. Watergate, the murdering-ATF-agents advice and the Clinton shooting targets only scratch the surface of Liddy’s awfulness.

There are things he did as a White House Plumber that are beyond unconstitutional — other things that we don’t even know about and probably never will. Sabotage, break-ins and other dirty tricks — dark, dark subversions of the executive branch. He’s represents one of the most terrible eras in American history, and McCain is talking about Liddy like he’s an old buddy who spent the night in the Mayberry lockup with Otis the town drunk!

Thanks Dave! There’s no way the MSM is gonna be able to resist playing clips from Letterman. Once his comment gets aired by the news outlets…game on.Obama needs an offensive strategy to PWN the news cycles, else it’s gonna be death by a thousand plumbers over the next 3 weeks!

The conservative response to bringing up Liddy seems to be “Well, he went to jail and paid his debt to society and is repentant for what he did.” That would be an awful argument even if it were true (Liddy maintains that he went to jail as a ‘prisoner of war.’) Nobody has even brought up the misdeeds he planned to, but was never able to carry out – like the murder of unfriendly journalists, or the kidnapping of political dissenters. So the conservative argument basically boils down to the fact that Gordon Liddy was less effective at carrying out his mayhem than was Bill Ayers. Outstanding.Sad that the only person on TV with the guts to call McPhony out on his BS is Letterman, who just won himself a new fan.

Now, this is something that needs to be hammered hard! Not by Obama, but by our own fringe movements! It’s time for us to play swift-boat!

^^^^ THIS!!Why does no one in MSM push back against this Ayers business? Why is there no fact-checking of McLame & Failin’s remarks? Hey, I have an idea: INTERVIEW AYERS!! If they can track down “Joe” I’m sure they can find Ayers — And I bet interviewing some of Ayers’ past and present students would be interesting . . . are they terrorists too?!This is not over till it’s over!! don’t let the Repukes steal this election!

I’ve posted a review of the McCain/Letterman encounter with a link to the entire clip.Feel free to skip over my insightful, biting and unique brand of commentary (if such a thing is possible) and clicky-click right on through to the Late Show segment.http://cousinavi.wordpress.com/2008/10/17/mccain-on-letterman/

Think of Liddy as a screw up. Thank god he screwed up Watergate. Nixon out. However, the JV’s on that team Rumsfeld and Cheney have come back to haunt us later.

Too bad the rat Liddy claims he ate wasn’t his buddy McCain.

Wait a second….if McCain’s rationale for hanging around with Liddy is that he did his time for his crimes (though treason should have had a harder sentence) then why in Hell is McCain trying desperately to make a case about “domestic terrorist” William Ayres. Wasn’t Ayres acquitted of all charges? He didn’t have to do any time because he wasn’t actually convicted of anything. Someone please correct me if I’m wrong on this one.

  • dontpanic23

@Dunce I was never clear on that either. Someone come in and enlighten us. If Ayers “killed people” according to McCain, and was found not-guilty, then he is not guilty of “killing people”, right? Ayers’ talking about it is as guilty as Liddy’s talking about it. Except that Liddy wrote a fuckin’ instruction manual. (G to Sarah)

Re: Ayers not doing time.I didn’t bother to Wiki it, but I think he and his wife spent some period of years in hiding. The charges were eventually stayed due to some FBI shenanigans in putting the case together/gathering evidence – they got up to some rather nasty stuff back in those days (well…they still do).So, Ayers was never convicted or served any time. He has confessed to the actus rea and the mens rea, but was saved by government misconduct.

?? Avi, I only know one kind of rea, and it isn’t something I’d go around confessing to. Care to enlighten us on what the actus and mens are? And do I need a prescription to clear them up, or will over the counter cover it? My healthplan sux.
