Not Enough!

Posted by JumpyPants

Six points is not enough. Close in North Carolina, New Mexico, Virginia, Colorado, Florida, Ohio, etc. is not enough.

We have to win big. We have to have overwhelming margins in critical states. We have to have a popular vote mandate. We have to have a filibuster proof majority in Congress.

I coach my 9-year old’s soccer team. And what I try to teach them is that when we’re winning, we don’t celebrate until after the fourth quarter.

Phone bank. Canvass.
Donate. We’ve got the fourth quarter to go. Let’s hold the lead and expand it. Let’s score some more goals. Let’s win this thing bigger than any pundit could possibly forsee. Let’s show the world who real America chooses for their real president.

canvass! We need you to canvass. 1 door is equal to 14 phone calls.Barack is coming to my county tomorrow!

I agree 100%–because it is clear that the media has already tried to delegitimize a potential Obama win with the BBQ emem’s of “he should be up by 15-20 points” and “McCain was winning, and then the economy happened”–the latter relly pisses me off because McCain was up by two points for a second after his convention–very normal.I want to crush them–Palin’s on TV right now–on the attack as usual, and the media gives her free airtime withouit having to answer any questions–what a deal–say whatever you want with no accountability whatsoever.

I think the polls are skewed this election cycle, and the “6 points” number is way low.Nate Silver did an excellent run-down on all 8 daily tracking polls this morning, and several things stood out for me:1. All eight use the “likely voter” model. A likely voter is someone who has voted in the last two elections. I think this discounts all of the first time voters that Obama’s ground game has been adding to the ranks, as well as the younger voters, which I believe will come out big for Obama. IIRC only one of the daily trackers includes “registered voters”, and those are published seperately.2. Of the eight daily trackers, only two include cell phone numbers in their poll lists. I believe this means that many voters, especially younger voters who’s cell tends to be their ONLY phone, are again being under represented in the polls.I’m not trying to be complacent, or argue that it’s over. Perhaps there’s weighting done among pollsters to try and adjust for these things and I’m way off base. But I think we are seeing an election unlike anything we’ve seen before, and the polls are struggling to keep up and keep relevant.

COMPLETELY AGREE JG!!!I was watching and was astounded by the lead in from Shuster who made it a point to say several times that the comment by Obama to his crowds when they get disrespectful to Palin/McCain was “a set piece designed to draw a distinction between the two campaigns.” As if to say it is something staged. He then proceeds to essentially ask his audience to give a round of a applause and welcome Sarah Palin to the stump!! The biggest staged candidate in political HISTORY!!!W.T.F.W.T.F.W.T.F.W.T.F.W.T.F.W.T.F.W.T.F.W.T.F.?

Hey, and could someone debunk this poll for me, please? I don’t have the time to research today.http://elections.foxnews.com/2008/10/21/poll-troops-support-mccain/

I completely agree with you. This may provide a bit of encouragement though:http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2008/10/21/chuck-todd-mccains-got-no_n_136545.html

STOP FUCKING COVERING PALIN UNTIL SHE GIVES A PRESS CONFERENCE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!This is really pissing me off–http://www.slate.com/id/2202642

  • MatthewN

The “stop covering her” calls have me twitching a bit. There are arguments about the amount of coverage, and the vapid quality thereof. But Palin is a VP condidate, a legitimately newsworthy figure right now.I’m not sure I want my news sources basing their coverage of legitimate news on whether the source of that news is playing the game their way.I know, I know, the news is biased/corrupt/controlled by corporations/ etc etc etc.But do we really want to make it worse by agreeing that they should withold coverage in a fit of pique? Do we really want to go down that road?

  • JG

Matthew–I see what you are saying, but it isn’t normal veep coverage–it is non stop, uninterrupted coverage of her nasty hate filled robo-speeches where she throws out claims that would not be able to make if she were held up to the same scrutiny by the media. She continually claims Obama “is not truthful”–and many other lies, and misleading statements–and yet she is not held accountable by the media about those claims at all. That is the problem becuase when you are given free, uninterrupted airtime without having to answer for your own record or any of your false claims, it is merely propaganda–and no candidate in the modern era has ever been afforded this.

  • MatthewN

JG — Then let’s shift the blame where it belongs. The media is allowing her to spew her lies, without a talking head coming on immediately afterwards to point out that much of what she said is demonstrably false. They don’t need Palin in the studio to do that. Facts are readily available. For them cry that she’s not available to answer for the lies is foolish. They don’t need her to do that.I’d much rather see them aggressively go after her lying hate-filled speech than ban her from the airwaves because she won’t play their game.

AH! BUT!!You make the assumption that the media will take a position as to the validity or voracity of a claim. They let the “commentators” make statements, but the network will NEVER take a side. The truth is fungible, to use Palin’s term. You’re never sure how much of it there really is or where it may show up…but there are DEFINITELY “HUNGRY MARKETS” (puke) THAT NEED IT!!The networks need to fly their anchors to Palin’s speech and plant them all at the bottom of the stairwell, with live feeds. That would provide the level of exposure necessary to reveal this propagandist for what she is. If she refuses to speak to the media (theoretically representing us) then she can claim her reward Nov 5th.

  • MatthewN

Wait… if they won’t take a position as to the validity or voracity of a claim… then what the hell would they ask her?Palin: “Lie lie lie”Anchor: “Excuse me Ms Palin, was that statement a lie?”Palin: “No”Anchor: “Oh, okay.” (because after all, they won’t take a position as to the validity or voracity of a claim.)What have we gained?

You just described a transcript from any number of major news organizations. That’s the point. They may say “but the Obama campaign says that’s untrue”. To wit the interviewee says “They’re wrong, it is true.” and thus ends the conversation. There’s no “Senator, it’s in the record (and in some cases in science and physics books) that your assertion is false. Either you repudiate it, or I have no option but to discount you as a liar.”If they did that they wouldn’t see much of the candidates though so they don’t upset them. The 4th estate has been spayed and/or neutered (take your pick…or both in the case of Anne Coulter)
