Open Letter to Cable News

Dear Cable News,

You have a responsibility to debunk and watchdog race-baiting. It’s not a topic to be discussed as you would an ordinary campaign tactic. The voters, politicians and pundits who deal in race-baiting and fear-mongering do not deserve respect, deference or equal time. This is a cancer and it’s time to kill it.

Cheers,
Bob

Thanks for laying it down Bob; you couldn’t be more right. It’s time to stop treating this stuff as if it were somehow within the realm of reasonable “tough tactics.” Powell said as much this morning; of course, I’d perhaps go a step further, toward legal redress, if not some kind of cease-and-desist order; I was very happy to hear about the woman who is launching a civil action against McCain’s campaign for “hate-speak”. That’s the stuff!

I’d bump this if this was a thread on a message board. On another note, I learned that watchdog can be used as a verb. Thanks, Mr. Cesca.

I was pleased, to some extent, to see that both ABC and NBC’s Nightly News at 6:30pmET showed parts (though not enough) of Powell criticizing McCain’s campaign for the Ayers tactic trying to paint Obama as a terrorist. Thank God for small favors.I’m sure cable news tomorrow will show Brokaw’s follow-up questions attempting to smear Powell. If they even try to give much coverage of this endorsement, since obviously Palin’s pathetic appearance on SNL seems to be equally newsworthy.

It is astonishing to me that cable news has not only rewarded this BULL as a tactic, but they also enable it by covering it incessantly.

Speaking of “equal time” in an attempt to be fair and balanced, here’s what really pisses me off: Listening to these fucking inane pundits talk about how the campaigns have gone “negative.” They equate Obama’s most recent “negative” ad which claims McCain voted with Bush 90% of the time (followed by a video of McCain saying he voted with Bush 90% of the time!) with McCain’s ad trying to connect Obama with domestic terrorism. How in the fuck does that seem equally negative?!

They say the number of Obama’s negative ads (which aren’t negative, just the sad fucking truth) far outweigh McCain’s, and just on the rare occasion happen to mention that he’s running many more ads than McCain and therefore more negative ads. Comparing the percentages, McCain runs more negative overall, but again, how is telling the sorry, pathetic truth equaly negative with a smear camaign?

    Unfuckingbelievable!

I have to say, I have more respect for that inbred asshat in Ohio that hanged an Obama effigy in his yard than all these McCain surrogates speaking in code. At least he has the courage of his stupid convictions. These trolls I find in chatrooms, forums, etc. who preface every comment with “It’s not because Obama’s black” are what I find truly reprehensible and annoying.
