Tonight! McCain says Washington and New York are elitist cities. Thank goodness the terrorists attacked those cities and not the real parts of America. The pro-America parts. Let’s hear it for those parts! HEH?! HEH?! How about it! HEH?!

The more and more I think of that debate pic of the lizzard tongued McCain spazzing out, the more I think that is the the personification of his campaign…

  • dontpanic23

If the terrorists didn’t attack the Real America, why did we go to war over it? If it wasn’t Real America, it shouldn’t have mattered, right?

I had a shitty day today other than almost literally running into Michael Cera in an elevator. It seems like everyone just wants to die today and force the world to leave them alone.I feel like I’m in the land of the (un)dead.

  • dontpanic23

We ran into a McCain voter in the elevator. Us two girls and a serial killer-looking guy who glared and summed up our two votes that were double-canceling his out by my daughter’s tie-dyed shirt and my ASPCA shirt. Didn’t even need an Obama one to disgust the locals.

Hey all! Here is a post I read by Max Blumenthal, who also writes at HuffPo. I felt it was very thorough in going into the background of Powell’s endorsement of Obama. Strangly, there’s nothing about ‘race’ in it. Go figure…Anyway, I find it very disturbing that James Dobson wields so much power behind the scenes of the GOP, and for very narrow reasons. Powell is a great and brave man.http://thedailybeast.com/blogs-and-stories/2008-10-22/the-bitter-back-story-behind-powells-defection/1/

LFoD08 – this is off topic, but – I downloaded that thing, and don’t know how to work it. Help?LFoD08 wrote: me too..2 sec and then still-frame. anyone on FFX, there is a plug-in called IE Tab that is a BIG help in situations like this. An engineer friend of mine hooked me up with it. Once you download it, it allows FFX to represent a site using IE’s HTML parser, so the net is you get the functionality of IE within your FFX browsing experience. Check it out.http://www.download.com/IE-Tab/3000-11745_4-10470729.htmlQT

http://election-projection.net/Obama just went to 100%…….what? Oregon has vote by mail. I drive to the drop location however. I’m gonna vote tonight.I just turned on Tweety and the Buchanan was on tellin’ lies. Yes! Mmmmmmm……..sweet goodness. Standing by for Keith. His hair is almost as great as Bob’s.Go Blazers!

  • jmrunning3

…and by the way…Did anyone happen to see the crawl on the Today Show this morning? I haven’t been able to find it on line yet, but I swear it said something to the effect of “Law enforcement preparing for violence/riots in major cities if Obama loses election”. I’m not certain of the wording, but that’s definitely the gist of it.I saw that and thought, WTF??Did anyone else catch that?

  • J M Ashby

DP – Sounds like you have a lot to be proud of in your daughter.

  • MatthewN

Again totally off topic, and I hope I’m not breaking ettiqute by posting a link to another blog, but this was just too good NOT to share.http://www.sadlyno.com/archives/13164.html

@QueenTiye:I just responded down in the Awesome Hall of Fame Inductee thread with another suggestion for your FF problem.http://www.bobcesca.com/blog-archives/2008/10/awesome_hall_of_1.html#commentsI use IE Tab myself for a couple of sites where the font renders strangely in FF vs. IE, but I don’t really know how you could use it for watching YouTube videos.

JM, oh yes. She’s even farther left than I am and one smart damned cookie at age 23 (and for 23 years before that). She was a cabbage patch baby–I don’t know where she got it. Seriously. She and her husband talk politics over my head–but they lived in his native Scotland for 5 years until last year so they have a different perspective. Now I have to bribe my 20-year-old son. Probably steak or seafood. If that will even get him moving. Little shit. He hates standing in line or paperwork. But by not voting he’s not only giving up his chance to help push Obama over by one more, but he’s jeopardizing it for the rest of the family, the country and the world. That’s going to be my argument.

  • dontpanic23

Isn’t Scott McClellan black? He must be, right?

  • J M Ashby

Sounds like a very intellectually stimulating family DP. You’ll have to tell me more sometime. My immediate family are mainly left-leaning and do follow the news somewhat, but I can’t have a very indepth conversation with them. They catch the headlines but not the real meat of the stories.Where I vote is pretty small. I doubt I’ll even have a line to stand in.Time for Olbermann!

  • jmrunning3

DP, isn’t it great having your kids get involved? My oldest isn’t an activist, but is vocal about her support for Obama and will vote. Though too young to vote, my oldest son is very vocal, my youngest daughter wears her Obama shirt to school twice a week. The youngest isn’t really interested in all this yet.

  • ceu

McCain’s campaign denied that he ever knew G. Gordon Liddy – really?

  • J M Ashby

    Ceu – Bill’O denied it.

  • dontpanic23

Yup Ashby and Running3, it’s wonderful. We are all junkies and love to talk, email, stumble–whatever. My recent immigrant SIL spent so many hours campaigning/canvassing/phoning for Obama during the primary when they lived here with me that near-year that he was famous among the campaign workers as “that wonderful Scottish guy”. He didn’t have a job yet and had plenty of time to work–and did–for the candidate he loves even though he can’t vote for him.Great for the older daughter and her Obama shirt! Sounds like mine when young. My kid even loves PHIL OCHS–I caught her listening to my collection when she was in HS and the Iraq war was cranking up and she was co-editor of her HS paper–and the Opinions editor(!)–so she ruffled many feathers in that little rah-rah town.

  • J M Ashby

DP’s daughter, the next Rachel Maddow? haha

  • http://obamaproject.windonwater.net QueenTiye

DP – good luck with your boy. I went through a “no voting” phase – does he have a reason why he isn’t?wabewawa – I’ll check and see if the solution you offer helps. Thanks!QT

  • jane

DP- are your daughter & SIL fans of Craig Ferguson?

  • J M Ashby

I love Craig Ferguson. I hope he gets the late show when letterman retires.

  • J M Ashby

    McCain is melting down.

  • J M Ashby

Palin 2012? Yeah right, what a joke. When this election is over, her current status as comedian punching bag will be dwarfed by her new status as pundit punching bag.

  • dontpanic23

Ashby, you’re closer than you might believe in several ways :-) QT, Thanks, and he’s just selectively lazy right now. Hates standing in line but will sit and stalk a deer for half the day.Jane, I don’t know. Ferguson never came up. I don’t stay up that late but I love him online. You guys know how late I stay up.

  • dontpanic23

No way Palin has a political career beyond this. She’s a joke.

  • J M Ashby

Its good to see newcasters laughing at ridiculous pundits. We need more of this.

  • dontpanic23

Shuster was outright laughing at that idiot mocking Obama taking a campaign plane to visit his grandmother.

  • idreamofskiba

Brad Blakeman creeps me the hell out.I have a crush on Sam Seder.

  • J M Ashby

You really have to wonder what on earth the republican party does next after this election. Who do they follow? What is their message? This election isnt just about winning or losing. This election is a final verdict on fear, lying, abuse of power, and trickle-down economics. Without all of those things, what does the republican party stand for? I certainly have no answer or even guess to that question.

Steve the Schmidthead.KO makes my evenings worth it.

  • dontpanic23

Ashby can they just slink away with the Whigs?Yup, Schmidthead nearly choked me on a mint.MADDOW!

  • J M Ashby

The only thing that could make me laugh louder than Steve the Schmidthead is Palin 2012.

  • KatinWilm

I’m starting to really get tired of Joe the Plumber and all his ‘the’ spawn.

@QTIE Tab is dead simple to use. When you come across a vid that doesn’t work, click on the FFX logo at the bottom right of the browser. It will reload as IE. Click the vid again and it should play. Now, you can set it up to always use IE for the GDAB, but it will forget your login with typekey and you’ll have to relogin….no biggie, just a quick fix. From then on you should be OK. Works for any page you might come across where video stalls. Hopefully FFX will figure this out. I’ve reloaded Shockwave 2x but it comes back, so it’s definitely FFX related in some way.Lemmeknow if you have any other problems by commenting on my blog…it will ping my email that way.Cheers!

OK all, so tonight’s my night for a personal rant. My neighbors, an Indian family, are nice people. We had a bit of a touchy springtime, though, because they were Hillary supporters and none to happy to see Barack leading. I try not to get overly political in the neighborhood cause I don’t want to screw things up for my kids who like to play with other neighborhood kids. But my 14 year old son is having a problem and I’m not sure what to do. Being that y’all are my support group, wondering what you think I should do here…So my son gets rides to school with the Indian family, and the father recently started needling my son about who we’re supporting. When he said Obama, something strange happened. Instead of saying “oh, well he’s unqualified but he’s all we’ve got” or some such retro-Hillary dig, he says “oh, you mean Obama Bin Laden?”My son didn’t press the issue, but it sounds very much like they’re gonna vote for McCain. WTF?? I don’t get that AT ALL. I hate admitting this, but I honestly feel he may not be supporting Obama BECAUSE he is black. I never even considered the idea on non-white racism, but I guess it exists, eh? Can anyone come up with a reasonable argument how a Hillary supporter can justify a McCain vote?? Especially when you ad the whole Palin factor into the mix….I’m really stressed about this cause my son is at the point where he doesn’t want to ride with them anymore (and I think the feeling may be mutual). This is just weird. Doctors, what do you think??

  • J M Ashby

LFOD – A reasonable argument? No, thats just plain stupidity, prejudice, and bad influence. I would call that the “wrong crowd.”Any minority voting for McCain, or any Republican for that matter, bewilders me.Im no expert, but I would say thats not the kind of people you want your son associating with, not even for a ride.

  • cminri

Im hoping evolution will take care of the “Republican Base”

  • jane

LFOD, Never seen you at a loss for words. How about approaching the parents to say “asking my teenager about politics is inappropriate” in the hopes of shaming them into butting out, at least?

  • http://www.broadwaycarl.blogspot.com Broadway Carl

Hey all. Somebody talk me down – only 12 days left and I’m completely burned out. I feel like I’m overwhelmed with all this political shit. The slightest hint of a Republican on TV lying to my face so blantantly drives me through the roof. I can’t stand listening to McCain or Palin. I try to be objective but I literally now change channels when MSNBC cuts to a live stump speech, They make me physically ill. My brain has become numb. HELP!

  • J M Ashby

Carl – Keep the TV turned off until Olbermann and Maddow. It works for me.

  • Poleezz

OK BC, you can share in my utter joy that Indiana (my home state) is showing Obama ahead by 10 points. I can’t remember the last time Indiana went blue. I think I was 5. I hope that helps you feel better!

  • http://livefreeordie08.wordpress.com LiveFreeOrDie08

@JM & JaneThanks. I think I’ll approach him next weekend and try to channel my inner Obama to respectfully represent some facts for him to consider before he marks his ballot.

  • cminri

Sorry Carl, Im in the same boat with you (as is Larry David and about 1500 commenters on HuffPo). I am considering instituting a total media black out on myself in the waning days of this godawful election. No television, no talk radio, no “the internets”, and I might have to have someone prescan my emails. But then what the hell will i do?? Read a book maybe? Watch some old movies? Renew an old friendship? Nah… IM ADDICTED TO STRESS!

  • ceu

Let off steam with words, Carl. You do it well.

  • http://www.broadwaycarl.blogspot.com Broadway Carl

Thanks, Chris. That’s the thing, I’m having a little motivation trouble. They blog has been waning. Maybe tonight…

  • ceu

I know the feeling, Carl – I hit election emotional overload about 2 weeks ago. I’m still enthusiastic, but I want it over. Too much outrage and faux outrage, too much idiocy coming from the surrogates, too much Sarah Palin…just too much. I’ve been paying close attention for 18 months – too long. I need to move on to the next step – transition teams, new cabinet, new direction…and I have this awful fear of the election being stolen again. And if you can’t write – don’t for a few days…but keep putting up the Bush quotes, please. They are the best motivaters for regime change. :)

  • J M Ashby

    Goodnight all.

  • http://www.broadwaycarl.blogspot.com Broadway Carl

You got it, Chris. I’ll keep the quotes coming. Goodnight all.

  • solrac2002

I fkn love Keith Olbermann!!!! (Just got off of work). Loved the campaign comment!. Later.

  • dontpanic23

@Ceu: thanks, I sent to my mother to email him. It will have more impact. MUCH more impact.@LfOD – I can somewhat relate. My neighbors glare at me when I have the nerve to go to the mailbox on foot–but most of them are white, some hispanic (who also get the glare for other reasons). But I don’t have young kids anymore. In the ’90s one neighbor truly traumatized my daughter when she asked if I was voting for Clinton, my kid said yes, and she told her I was voting for someone who wants to kill babies. Really messed with my then-11-year old who probably started her political quest right then. We had just gotten the internet and she was off… never taking shit like that without calling them on it again. I’m with Jane, just confront them with not discussing politics.
