Sorry, hit “Post” way too fast…I really believe that there needs to be some sort of independent fact checking news service made available each and every night…Say at 11:30 pm…A half hour to go over the days headlines and cover what is nonsense and what isn’t, and each individual news channel would get they’re own fact team so that the actual stories that they covered would indeed be checked….Something.. anything… to show the majority of the public how much bullshit is fed to them every minute of every day…

I read one of Bob’s columns at HuffingtonPost around the beginning of this year a few weeks before the Iowa primary and followed the link to this blog. It only took seeing the name of the blog to know I would fit in.

The great thing about a lot of this “cable hackery” that tries to promote the McCain campaign’s garbage is that it really seems to be going astray. What a contrast from the deadly effectiveness of Swift-Boat attacks back in 2004, which were covered almost fatalistically, as if the mere propagation of them bound us all to take them seriously. Am I right in believing that a clear majority of citizens are beginning to snort with healthy laughter at fake mutilations, ridiculous charges about “palling around with terrorists,” and bogus outrage material such as “lipstick on a pig” and “Oh my god Barack is using his campaign plane to visit his grandmother!”? In thinking that these tactics are becoming the butt of a national joke? If so, this is the proper response — there’s something almost Rabelaisian about this turn in the public mood, if I read it rightly. A lot of the media types are playing their usual “sham objectivity” games, and huge numbers of ordinary citizens are either laughing at or mostly ignoring both the original claims and the hackery-treatment of them. I take nothing for granted, but in this sense at least, things are looking up. Of course, if you want to be an eeyore, you can say that the mood shift just proves people learn only from painful experience–that the “learning” we have done, however little or long it lasts, may be the result of the last eight years of profound insults to the political system and today’s severe economic troubles. But it’s good to see people not being passive about such insults and shocks.

@QT – I followed Bob here a couple of months ago when Palin was first announced, commentary of Huffpo was going wild and I was banned from commenting for no particular reason–someone just started hitting the ban-button randomly because there were thousands of comments coming in. I wrote them and got no replies–and was not pleased. A few days later Bob had a post there and I replied several times, commenting at the end “but I’m just talking to myself since I’m banned”, thinking it never went across his “desk”. Then suddenly the comments showed up. Bob became my hero and I checked out this site and decided I didn’t need to comment over there (where the trolls roam and you have to watch your language) though I do still read there. Like with JM, the title of this blog alone told me volumes. Then I read some of the comments and saw kindred spirits. Okay, and I’ve gone back and looked at Bob’s pic on Huffpo–you do have a point. But I don’t want Bob to think I’m here for his body (or actually face–that’s all I can see) and the lovely beard. I’m not. Bob is awesome for his writing, his sense of humor, what I’ve seen of his heart and mind and for his freeing me from the Land of No Commentary.
