Let me get this straight. Only the small towns where Palin shrieks out her stump speeches are considered the “real America” — the “pro-America areas?” She’s insane. Maybe someone should ask her about this the next time she’s hiding out here in the Philadelphia area. You remember Philadelphia, Sarah? The fifth largest city in the nation? The home of, you know, Independence Hall?
This whole notion of middle America being the Real America has far exceeded its fifteen minutes. For the last eight years, this yokel theory of politics has endured — allowing right-leaning pundits and politicians to be less smart and more kneejerk. Of course there’s nothing wrong with small towns, but there’s no such thing as a “more patriotic” or “more American” region of America. The sooner this theory dies, the better.
