Sullivan nails it

Posted by JumpyPants

From Andrew Sullivan’s liveblog:

This was, I think, a mauling: a devastating and possibly electorally fatal debate for McCain. Even on Russia, he sounded a little out of it. I’ve watched a lot of debates and participated in many. I love debate and was trained as a boy in the British system to be a debater. I debated dozens of times at Oxofrd. All I can say is that, simply on terms of substance, clarity, empathy, style and authority, this has not just been an Obama victory. It has been a wipe-out.It has been about as big a wipe-out as I can remember in a presidential debate. It reminds me of the 1992 Clinton-Perot-Bush debate. I don’t really see how the McCain campaign survives this.

Yep. Even the pitiful Republican talking heads on CNN are throwing in the towel.

As much as i disagree with sullivan on certain issues, namely religion, he’s usually dead on in political matters. this is no exception

  • jane

You could say he’s a Master Debater.

  • LoewLife

Jane: you certainly could, lol. Mainstream media didn’t expect that did they? talk about playing expectations!

    Anyone else watching KO?

  • J M Ashby

    Nice one Jane.

  • J M Ashby

    Im always watching KO, Elvis.

  • ceu

me, elvis. I get the impression that KO thinks Obama won. :)

  • jane

Dingly I’m still rewinding to watch the “that one” live in context.KO is next. Perpetually late.

  • KatinWilm

Beyond any politics, McDouche just didn’t look well tonight. He kept leaning on his chair, taking deep breathes….this man wouldn’t make it through his first term. Which means you have to look at Palin….which is slightly nauseating….

  • http://www.clusterdouche.com Elvis Dingeldein

“Slightly nauseating”??? That’s like calling Hitler “slightly racist.”Not that I’m comparing Palin and Hitler, I don’t do that.

  • jane

Bob knows that I run late, and has pre-dated my comments by ten minutes or so.

  • jane

Kat, lookin’ at (even listenin’ to) Sarah will be the least of our problems. Livin’ under will be hardest.

  • ceu

Linda Douglas on KO – the RNC sent out an email before the debate was over complaining about the format!Fucking whiners!

  • J M Ashby

McCain: “thanks for coming to a townhall:RNC: “that wasnt a real townhall you doodoo heads”

  • jane

    Oil drilling! No flip-flop here!

  • KatinWilm

Obviously I was too sedate in my thoughts….The idea of Sarah Palin being president after John McCain is strangled by Cindy in his sleep makes me walk around my (small, only) home with an airplane barf-bag like I’m in my 3rd month of pregnancy. And thank you for not comparing Palin to Hitler, Elvis. If there is anyone who makes me want to puke more than Palin….it’s O’Reilly.

How do you suppose that Navy Petty Officer ended up sitting in the front row, right next to McCain, at the PERFECT camera angle, yet the black woman was prestaged in the 4th row at an angle that couldn’t possibly include Obama in a 2 shot. BBQ?

  • jane

If we gave him a Grauman’s Chinese Theatre cement blcok would he cede?

  • jane

    oops blcock heh heh

  • JG

Obama was masterful–haven’t watched any pundits yet, but went to HuffPo and saw the polls. I guess that means a tie or a slight edge to McCain.”That one” will go down in infamy. Off to the BBQ pit to hear about “the tie.”My word for Obama: MASTERFULMy word for McCain: AIMLESS

Why doesn’t someone just put Andrea Mitchell out of her own misery? She’s completely fucking useless.

  • recruitgal

Have done a quick tour of the news sites and blogs. Everyone calling it for Obama (even the Fox panel were leaning Obama), so on that happy note, I am going back to bed. Night all!

  • http://www.osborneink.com Matt Osborne

McCain was winded. His age was showing.

  • jane

‘Night RG.ED, Put Andrea Mitchell out of my misery. Please take my wife.

  • KatinWilm

I’m off to bed, kids! I’m sending my 3rd grader off to school tomorrow with a new Obama/Biden sticker on his folder! Keith Olbermann is his hero – at least I’m doing something right (he is blissfully unaware of my Rachel-crush however…we are in the South)! See you guys next week!

I have a bunch of questions:1. Did Tom Brokaw say the guy was a CPO? I didn’t hear it and wondered how McCain knew.2. What was the hairpiece joke?3. What was the median age of the CNN focus group?4. Why is everyone getting their own personal independent voter focus group? I mean – at 27 days out – isn’t that a reasonably small group – small enough that they aren’t a representative sample or even a representative focus group? Am I missing something?QT

Terry Whatshisface said “As a retired Navy chief…”McCain supplied his own memory of a Chief Petty Officer. I think it sort of evolved from there.

  • bajasteve

All I can say, as a retired Navy Chief myself, if McCain learned everything he knows about leadership from a CPO, the CPO in question should never have been promoted to that rank. He (if he really existed) was obviously a complete failure at chiefyness.

  • jane

    mmm, chiefyness.

  • http://obamaproject.windonwater.net QueenTiye

Thanks, Elvis. I was ready to accuse McCain of cheating and placing a plant. But ok.QT
