Ten Grand for Obama – Panicky Update

Time is running out to meet our ‘Ten Grand for Obama’ fundraising goal of $10,000 by Election Day. We now have 3.5 days and $3,500 to go before our midnight Monday night deadline. That seems like a big hunk of cash to raise in just a few short days. But if you recall, we raised $3000 on the first day alone, so it’s not impossible.

It’s crucial that the Obama campaign has plenty of cash on hand to, 1) get some money to the down-ballot congressional candidates during the final push, 2) run up the score for a governing mandate, and 3) finance a legal fund in the event of any voting shenanigans.

Don’t forget, the Republicans can still win this thing with the help of electronic voting machines, voter purges, polling-place intimidation, and the very real potential of a handy-dandy Bin Laden tape sometime this weekend.

So all it takes are the usual $5 and $10 donations — larger amounts are absolutely encouraged, but not mandatory. And if you can afford to donate more than a couple of dollars, there’s a space for entering amounts less than $5. Just type in the amount you can afford in the “Other” box.

Let’s go!

UPDATE: Bumped above-the-fold.

Mr. the Bob:Another $10. Wish i could do more, but hey, I still gotta pay the bills. Between this site, direct donations to Obama and money to other Dems, I’m getting broke. My comfort is that if everyone I’ve donated to gets elected, there’s a chance that America and the world will become a little better place.

    Done and done!

  • dontpanic23

My check is listed as “in process” but “available” so I’m gonna drop another ten and hope that means “really there” and not “wait till midnight”. Ugh, but if it bounces–I’ll drop in more when it says stops saying “in process”. That’s a scary and unclear concept when it comes to trying to use it. By midnight it will certainly have cleared.I hate bank terms.

Okay, okay, I’m in. Now if I could just stop visiting here and the other sites and get some real work done I’d have nothing to feel guilty about. (Well, nothing that can be proven anyway.)

  • jmrunning3

    I’m in for $15, Bob.

  • suli

I just tossed in another few bucks.Does the thingy update in real time?

OT to this post but want this to be seen.I feel the need to express my deep disappointment and outrage with the folks here who keep bringing up the UT poll and the 23% of Texans who blah blah blah because I can damned well guarantee you that if the same poll was done in your state, it would be the same or worse!!The original post yesterday might have seemed funny to most of you and some pretty harsh things were said about Texas and quite colorful language was used which under ordinary circumstances doesn’t bother me in the least.Look, I know Bush comes from here, but come on, give us a break, we aren’t all ignorant no nothings and in deference to Elvis, many good things come from here but I won’t list them so as not to bore anyone. There are Alaskans and Arizonians who feel the same I’m sure.I’ve been reading this blog for months and recently became a part time commenter. I dug to the bottom of my pocket to help raise the $10,000 Bob’s trying to raise and given more than I can afford under the circumstances which I won’t go into, again, so as not bore anyone. Suffice it to say that I as well as millions of others not only want Obama to win but desperately need him to. As far as I can tell, we all here on this blog believe he’s the only hope for ourselves and America. Don’t know about the rest of you, but I’ve lost a lot of sleep worrying about what will happen if he doesn’t win. When you ridicule and demean an entire state thereby demeaning the entire populace of said state on the flimsy evidence of some stupid poll, you are not practicing what Senator Obama preaches. Just think (WWOD) what would Obama do, because I think we can all agree, he would not do such a thing. Can we all please go back to doing our best to getting him elected and stop with the division of little town vs. big town, real America vs. non-real., state vs. state and the culture war the other side is so good at? We are better than that.

I threw in some $$, like I said yesterday as I can’t be on the ground in say, North Carolina, it’s important to put my money where my mouth is.Other than that, since I live in California and will be casting my perfunctory vote on Tuesday, I can then only sit back and pray that the rest of my country finally does the right thing!!

  • PackyJ

I’m sorry if anything I’ve ever said offended you, yelorose.Believe me, I can empathize. You COULD have an even bigger cross to bear:You could be an Alaskan, like me.

  • anemone17

Oh man, Bob. Every time you post another one of these thermometer thingys I’m compelled to donate another $20. It’s like a Pavlovian reach-for-the-credit-card kind of reaction. And so, there goes my kids’ college savings for the month.Oh, wait–if Obama doesn’t win, there go my kids’ hope of going to college FOREVER. Whoops, there goes another $20 flyin’ right out the door.

I gave $50 (I can’t even begin to remember how many times I’ve given over-all) and posted that video tohttp://www.blueoregon.com/2008/10/what-do-you-hav.html

Hey Packy, I hear ya. Maybe I’m being too sensitive, but the stupid poll and the entire post about it just didn’t sit well with me. Has anyone called all Alaskans stupd or that the state should be cut off and let it drift to sea? If so, let me be the first to apologize. That would just be a stupid thing for someone to say on a blog where everyone should be on the same team. you betcha. BTW, your state is beautiful from what I’ve seen in pics and videos. Not sure I could deal with the winters though.

  • PackyJ

Yes, they have, Yelorose. Not necessarily on this site, but on many I visit. Huffington Post posters are especially bad for trashing Alaska with every Palin article. We aren’t ALL hoopleheads up here, but it is a veritable den of redneck assholes incapable of rational thought, so we all get judged that way.How about this? Convicted felon (7 counts) Alaska Senator Ted Stevens actually STILL has a shot at being re-elected!It’s embarrassing.I’ve never spent any real time in TX, but I have a really good ladyfriend who lives in Houston… and she is a progressive as well.Someday I’ll come visit. I know it’s not all cactus and sagebrush.

  • violadefacto

Rick Sanchez is on a roll again.

  • yelorose

Yeah we have our share of redneck assholes just like everywhere else and that’s the point. You can’t judge all people by the actions of a few or a lot as the case may be ;) I mostly don’t read the comments on right wing blogs or even Huffpo for that matter for the reasons you related. I thought this one was different though. It’s funny how folks bad mouth us and our state but when the economy goes south, lots & lots of them come here to find jobs as we have a higher employment rate than elsewhere. That’s how I ended up here as a child when the parents came for work. Born in Alabama, another mostly red state with it’s share of aforementioned redneck assholes, but we won’t go there, oops just did. Very beautiful there, just not high in the employment arena.People from all over the states are here now making money in the cleanup and restoration after Ike came to visit but that’s not the norm thank goodness (Ike that is).Just don’t come in the summer. We have some scorchers, really nice now with fall setting in.

  • Bob_Cesca

Yelorose — I didn’t mean to offend Texans, just the doofs who believe those rumors. It could’ve been ANY state. The fact that it was Texas was purely incidental. I’m positive that there are more than a few of these people living in my home state of Virginia, or my current home state of Pennsyltucky.Cheers!

  • jmrunning3

Yelorose, I’m just north of you in OK. I understand where you’re coming from. Jim Inhofe is my senator, so naturally, it’s often assumed “most” Oklahoman’s agree with him. And, well, yeah…many do…but many do not.Hoopleheads abound!

  • dontpanic23

Gotta wait until midnight when the money clears the bank on both sides of the screen. Keep bumping, Bob. More people will be in tonight and some are possibly like me, getting paid on the first.

  • yelorose

Thanks Bob. I appreciate it. It wasn’t you that said Texas should be cut off from upper 47 and let drift out to sea and that nothing good ever came from here. I would have let it go if not for that lovely bit of sentiment. I can’t imagine what Texas must have done to him to cause such bitterness toward an entire state.L8TR
