The Drudge Report Shibboleth

As you watch cable news today, take notice of the networks that are reporting this story — a quote from a 2001 Obama interview in which he discusses the Earl Warren Supreme Court and civil rights. Drudge and the Hot Air people, and subsequently the McCain campaign, are twisting the quote to be about “income redistribution,” which is patently absurd.

The networks that are running this ridiculously bogus story are still using Drudge as their assignment editor — despite getting totally burned on Drudge’s pathetic “B” attacker hoax.

Even worse, the arguments of “ZOMG Obama’s a socialist” they’re trying to drive is pretty asinine. It’s all based on “Obama said the word ‘redistribute’”.Which – considering how he was talking about the civil rights movement trying to redistribute things like the power of the vote, and the wealth of the taxpayers only going to the white population (you know – that whole “separate but equal” crap) – that was the “redistribution” that the civil rights movement was going for, the one then Community Organizer/Lawyer Obama was talking about – and not the “take the money for the State” nonsense.I laid it out here using the original transcript – I hope you don’t mind me making an outside link in your comments:http://newspirates.wordpress.com/2008/10/27/asinine-attacks-redistribute-my-ass/

I overheard this just minutes ago. Someone came by here commiserating about this very thing, directly citing Drudge’s site. This “redistrubution of wealth” refrain is getting so fucking tiresome.

How about redistributing wealth to the mortgage cos without even requiring themto modify mortgages. That’s what Paulson just did to the tune of $7.7 Billionwith PNC who was balking at modifying mortgages, just like all the other goodcorporate citizens. What they fear is a new “bottom up” strategy, rather than their usual “top-down”. Did you know that Bancruptcy judgesalready have the power to modify second, vacation, or investment home loans (andluxury boat loans)? It is not socialism to ask that the same rules be appliedto primary residences. I can proudly say that I have never pointed my browser to the Drudge Report.
