It has pissed me off NO END how the Republicans say this bill will make it harder to form/join a union and NOONE EVER CALLS THEM ON IT or sets the record straight.

Jane, that’s because people who don’t work in a union setting or have family who ever worked in a union have the false impression that EVERY union is a corrupt, mafia-related organization.

If you think unions are inherently evil, there’s no impetus for seeking advice or forming one. And who are they going to listen to? The corrupt, greasy union representative?

OT, but funny! If you get over to HuffPo before they fix it there’s a nice Freudian typo about the things Laura Bush thinks women are interested in.http://www.huffingtonpost.com/

When I was a young, union member (the Newspaper Guild) I thought that all the big battles had been fought and we really didn’t need them anymore, taking a bit of our paychecks every month. As I gained experience, I realized it was still thanks to the union that I had healthcare, cost of living pay increases, vacations long enough to actually do something, and reasonable job security. (I didn’t have to fear being fired because my boss was having a bad day.) But I was still naive. I quit my good, union job and moved to California and have spent the last 18 years experiencing firsthand the workplace in a world without strong unions. To anyone who thinks unions are corrupt, ask yourself: As compared to the CEOs? Because for most of them, your rights and even needs end with their own greedy pocketbooks…. And watch Richard Trumka’s speech again to remind yourself what unions have fought for.
