Afternoon Awesome

I’m not a huge Armstrong fan and, yeah, they were all doped up on EPO in the 2003 Tour, but sue me — I’m really looking forward to July.

Thanks for the Armstrong clips Bob. I’m not so sure that Armstrong will be in France in July. It’s not a done deal YET.Lance has been in Santa Rosa (last week) training with Astana teammate Levi Leipheimer. Together, they rode one of the Cat 4 climbs of Stage I of the 2009 Tour of California.Levi says that he and Lance did the climb 3 minutes slower than Leipheimer’s best. That suggests to me that Lance still has a ways to go before he can compete on the same level. I have no doubts he’ll be there in a couple of months, but he’s not there yet. This is my first time commenting since the change from Type-Key? So if you see this twice, sorry!

I don’t care what anyone says. Lance is one of the greatest athletes of all time!

I’ve been a huge cycling fan since, oh about 1994 and made the conscious choice a couple of years ago to live with my head in the sand on the particular point of doping. The fact is that many of the spectacular performances that I witnessed back in the pre-Lance-as-Tour-winner days–the ones that hooked me into the sport as both viewer and competitor–were done with the aid of doping. But lest we forget that this is entertainment and actively policed entertainment at that. So using that as a rationale I decided not to make an emotional investment into doping at the pro-level or and the related politics since as a fan, both are well outside my sphere of influence and I’d rather spend my precious free time enjoying the sport as entertainment regardless, rather than fret about whether or not Lance or Floyd or Tyler did or did not.[/soapbox]
