And I Rest My Case

Brett Bozell accidentally reveals the ridiculous dishonesty of this “center-right nation” argument. Note the phrases in bold:

BOZELL: Conservatives didn’t play a role in this campaign. This was a moderate Republican against a liberal, left-wing Democrat. And the left-wing Democrat beat the moderate Republican. … If you look at the exit polls this year, you’ll find two fascinating results. Number one: This country remains every bit as center-right as it has for a generation.

HEMMER: You don’t think that’s changed at all?

BOZELL: No it hasn’t. … Number one is that the public is conservative; number two: Barack Obama won as a conservative. That means Barack Obama does not have the mandate to enact the progressive agenda he wants to enact.

So he ran as a left-wing liberal conservative?

Like I’ve been saying, America just elected the so-called “most liberal senator ever and a socialist, too!” (not true, but whatever). And yet we’e “center-right?” Sorry, no.

So he ran as a left-wing liberal conservative?Yes. Just like he was a Muslim that went to a Christian church. Sheesh. How can that not make sense to you? It’s fun watching them try to claim some sort of perverse rational for what happened to them. They are literally trying with all their might to twist time and space, and oh yeah, reality, to portray their utter failure as a “win” for their ideology. They are facing the abyss, they know it and they are crazy frightened because they don’t have a leader to tell them what to do next.

And now… The Job Interview Sketch!”You’d like to be a Republican surrogate? Can you lie?”"Yes, sir.”"Good. Can you keep track of what you’re saying from on sentence to the next?”"Yes, sir.”"Oh well, that’s too bad. Thanks for coming in.”

    Position Flexible. Also!

These wingnuts casually forget that Bush won both of his elections by the absolute skin of his teeth … and regardless of anyone’s views of FL in 2000 or OH in 2004, if Clinton had kept his pants on, we might be talking about 20 straight years of a Democrat in the White House.

“Barack Obama won as a conservative.” Um, yeah. That’s just palin, simple, oops, wait, *plain simple crazy talk. The reality is that Barack wasn’t seen as “liberal” or “conservative.” He was seen as non-party affiliated, because he assiduously *avoided* attacking party and defining himself as a party man. Folks, remember in 2000, the “L” word didn’t stand for landslide, it stood for “liberal” and it stuck, and stuck “good” in a very bad way. It wasn’t brought up this time. And, frankly, neither was the idea that the “Republican party fucked this shit up”–! My argument all along–which proved inadequate, apparently–was that the Republicans had been in control of all three branches of government for 6 of the past 8 years, and so there’s no one else to blame. Obama and team, as smart as they are, avoided this obvious pitfall, and made it personal–basically, let’s not revile the people who should instead come into the big tent of acceptance. In effect, even though you voted Bush Republican once/twice, we understand that you’re conservatives and don’t hold that against you. His message the whole time has been one of ideological amnesty to wit: we don’t blame you for voting Bush, but now it’s time to come to reason and fix this country together.None of us here, on this blog, actually follow our Obama’s approach. We all revile the other with great relish, this writer included. But that’s not what won this election. No sir, it is not. What won this election is something bigger than rejection of the “other” and a smiting of those who are “at fault”–and to be honest, it’s a little bit more insidious and clever.Bravo Obama, for not falling prey to the easy answer that, like other major world wars, wound up reviling the vanquished, which led to even more bloodshed.

When you initiate your “America’s Most Horrible Republican” contest (hint hint), remember that I voted early for Brett Bozell. And don’t forget John McCain’s portrayal of a stunned candidate who couldn’t understand why the media was trying to cover for the palestinian professor and Israel critic whom McCain pretended not to know but once funded in 1993 a winner?. So many geeks, so little time.
