Babysitting the Big Three

It looks as if the president-elect is going to appoint a regulator to oversee the auto industry — ensuring that they won’t take our bailout cash and spend it on upgrading Escalades with jacuzzis and a Jamba Juice in the back.

Obama suggested to President Bush on Monday that aid to the auto industry could be coupled with the appointment of “someone in charge of the auto issue who would have the authority” to push for reforms. The details came from a more extended readout of the White House meeting provided Tuesday.

The person would assist in efforts to create an “economically viable auto industry,” a transition aide said…

How about it — HEH?! It’ll be nice to have industries that are concerned with being economically viable. For a change.

I’m getting the feeling that Obama is taking the role of kind TA (teaching assistant) and has taken W under his wing to help him pass the final before school lets out for the semester.I could care less if W gets a massive amount of credit for anything good that comes in the next 3 months…I just want the bad news to stop.

I think…the gov’t should take over one of the auto companies that wants to be bailed out. Yes, socialism (gasp). Retool to build green (or greener) cars. Put people to work implementing new technologies and designs to create basic, green, affordable vehicles (for people who need new cars but don’t need 16 cup holders and a DVD player in every seat.) It’s our money after all, and the current management of the auto companies have shown that they’re not going to change their ways. The knowledge is there, the ability is there, lord knows the workforce is there. Let’s show some leadership and do something risky & innovative that will accomplish many objectives at once.
