Commenting

Yeah, so TypeKey is now called TypePad and they actually managed to make their process more ridiculous.

For now, it’s impossible to sign in and comment using IE. But Firefox appears to work. Hopefully TypePad will get their act together. If not, I might have to do a fundraiser so I can pay my IT guy to install a new system.

You have an IT guy? I need to learn your secrets. I guess, then, they wouldn’t be secrets. But still.

  • Bob_Cesca

    >>You have an IT guy? I need to learn your secrets.I do. But only for the confusing mumbo-jumbo that I’ll never understand. There’s something called “php” and “cgi” that make my head hurt.

  • Bob_Cesca

Oh look! It works with IE now!

    >>I do. But only for the confusing mumbo-jumbo that I’ll never understand. There’s something called “php” and “cgi” that make my head hurt.Code crunching is a special hell.Speaking of your secrets, is there a post somewhere where you discuss how you got into blogging? Not a stalker, for swears. Just jealous.

  • PackyJ

I’ll throw in $5.Seriously, my buddy Elwood Foreclift at ieatgravel.com has a good setup. No bullshit like a blogger or typepad account needed. He’s a fan of yours, so I bet he’s share info.FUCK TYPEPAD.

  • cminri

I wanted to be the first to say that Packy!!!!!!(Fuck Typepad)

  • PackyJ

It took me 3 fucking tries to post, Typepad kept saying I wasn’t signed in, after I signed in.It is a piece of shit.Fuck TypePad.There HAS to be a better way, Bob.

I’ve never had a problem working through IE. Interesting.

  • FrictionSoul

    Is this thing on?

  • dontpanic23

Ah, fuck typepad now.I’m on today but couldn’t comment from Firefox last night. I noticed while reading earlier that I have to log in about 10 times more than before (which was bad enough). I’ll live but I’ll have to make one of those keyboard shortcuts for “Fuck Typepad”.Speaking OF…in the time it took me to type this I had to re-login. Fuck this, I’m good for $5 if you need it.

  • The Centauress

TypeKey/TypePad isn’t bad… if you REMEMBER to set it to keep you logged in.Do that and it will keep you logged in for three weeks from your last post! Which means – for all you ‘blog-sitters’ out there – you WON’T have to re-log each day!Easy, no?

  • dontpanic23

Centauress, I click that box every time I log in. The problem seems to hit batches of us in waves (as witnessed in nightly open thread conversations with spasms of “Fuck Typekey” in little rows). So other than clicking the “keep me logged in” box and looking in the Typekey/Typepad settings for an option that isn’t available to me, I’m open for suggestion.

Well – I’m in, because I was already in. But last night I was trying to log in from my handheld – always an iffy proposition, and failed entirely. So, that was that. And then there are the hangup issues that cause posters to sometimes double post (ok, maybe that only happens to me. But it only happens here). One thing is – it would be very nice to have profiles that belong HERE instead of to typekeypad. I’d like to find a record of my comments (for instance). I’m terribly disappointed that I still can’t find a record of my first post here, and have found no way to search for it. Additionally, the search function on is ok, but it would be nice to have such items as tags and/or categories so you can find related content.SO – if were moving platforms, I’ll pitch in for the fundraiser….:)QT

  • Big_Ben

Hey Bob,Have your IT guy check out http://drupal.org.It's a free CMS and has a lot of cool features from the start and tons more can be added.Keep up the good work!

  • incredulous72

I don’t have problems with it, but I do like to see you guys say, “Fuck TypeKey/Pad.”Makes my day that first word. ;-)

  • kansasdem

Been working great for me but I use Linux!I do curse any site when my “shit” disappears into the “vapor” and I was too stupid to copy-n-paste before posting! The thing is, whether it’s type-key/pad or anything else, we’re constantly fighting security holes! It’s all a matter of fighting the attack of the machines!

  • ceu

Email from TypePad about integrating TypeKey into TypePad:Here’s what this change means for you.Same Reliable ServiceYeah….great. I’m in. No, I’m not. Yes, I am. It’s a mystery.

  • FrictionSoul

Bob,DO NOT BE PERSUADED BY BIG_BEN. Drupal? O.M.F.G!!Stay far, far away from Drupal. It’s great for complicated websites but for a blog? No fucking way in hell.QT has the right idea regarding features. Ask your IT guy if s/he knows anyone who can port your TypePad content over to a new blog CMS. I can do it but only for one CMS. Contact me if you think QT’s feature (being able to see previous posts, categories, tags, related content) seems right for you.

  • Bob_Cesca

The challenge will be to preserve the existing registrations, as well as the database of comments. I don’t want to obliterate either. And QT’s ideas are good, too.Let me think about the fundraiser. I’m not big on the idea of begging for cash this soon after the Obama fundraiser — and in this economic climate.

  • http://unrelatedcontent.com Travis Disaster

You could pull a SomethingAwful and charge a one-time fee for some kind of posting privileges. Maybe a diary system like all the cool kids are into these days? I dunno, just blueskying.

  • http://obamaproject.windonwater.net QueenTiye

Yeah – I have to concur – Drupal is overkill for a blog site, and its darned hard to learn. As to concerns about the fundraising, we live in a new era now. Microgiving is the new wave – I can’t give much, but I can give some!Um. You have my registration? It seems like the registration belongs to typekey. If you have access to it, can you email everyone on the registration list just to make sure they are onboard?QT

  • FrictionSoul

Let me ask my sysAdmin programmer. He’s brilliant. He’ll know how to port comments and the blog out of their dbases into a new CMS.Damn, TypeCrap requires me to login 2 or 3 times to post my comment! I’m on FFox Apple.

  • http://cb39cdef61 Lammy

I’m just trying to make my 1st comment and so this is a test to see if I have passed all the required fields correctly

  • http://cb39cdef61 Lammy

Yea, it worked. Now I want to comment on stuff that I really wanted to talk about a week ago, but forget what it was about now. Next time I’ll be ready. P. S. We’re lovin your blog here in Canada.
